Would the OCZ DDR3 1333MHz 4GB Kit be the best RAM for the W860CU?
I'm buying a barebones from RJTech and I will be the one buying my own RAM. OCZ is reputable with desktop RAMS, do they have the same reputation with laptops?
TIA![]()

As you don't overclock a laptop as much as a desktop, the RAM doesn't matter so much... Go for a "Value" serie in well-known names like OCZ, GEIL, G.Skill, Kingston, Corsair, etc...
Just try to pick good timings (I think CAS9 is the standard). -

Ok. But are there with lower timings?
Here's the link for the OCZ: http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_pc3_10666_ddr3_sodimm , are its timings ok? -

Thanks for the info. Are those currently the best I can get?Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

From what I see that is available right now, it is the best DDR3 1333MHz memory. -

Oh ok. Is Newegg only the one offering it? I can't seem to find other ones offering them even eBay. -

Newegg is the only one that I know of. They have a deal with Kingston I think. -

babyhemi is correct. The Kingston (Elpida) sticks are the best on the market right now.
You can always buy them directly from Kingston's online store. I don't know if they ship international though. -
What makes them be so good? Am I gonna see a performance increase in certain tasks, or are they just very reliable? Both are good, but I just wanna have a reason to buy them...

Ah great. I think they have the lowest timings in the market.

You're only going to see a slight difference in long term crunching such as encoding videos. The throughput of tighter timings only boosts memory bandwidth by a few hundred megabytes per second. For gamers, it's unrecognizable. -

Regarding the Intel XMP of other HyperX modules, can that be utilized in the W860CU?

This is me repeating myself. Read it well because I'm not going to spoon feed you guys the short answer. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=381691

Got it. It's really weird why Kingston released an XMP laptop memory if NO laptop BIOS would ever support it
And I've noticed that the Newegg link of the HyperX memory above is not listed anywhere in shop.kingston.com , weird? -

Kingston's online store is always behind on adding new products. Just email them about it so they can put the link up.

Kingston said last week that they are out stock, and it is not known when it will be in again. The only place I think to buy it is Newegg. -
Newegg was selling them for $99. Odd with the $4 bump.

Looks like I'll be going Newegg then.

Where did you get the copper heat spreaders for your 1066 version?
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
I'm thinking he made them. He's a known damn well good modder around here
-

Anyone want to buy them? http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=427113

Well Newegg has this but it doesn't look exactly the same. LINK

Yup. Those are the ones I have. Except mine do not have the Sunbeamtech badge.

Is it recommended to replace the stock heatsinks of the HyperX with those ones?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I strongly suggest that you don't entirely because you will be voiding the lifetime warranty. But if cooling is your game, then be my guest.
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
Right. They don't heat very much anyway right?
-
No, Soviet just has an obsession for cooper and extreme DIY cooling systems
. Nothing to worry about, the standard ones are good as well.

RAM gets pretty toasty when operating on lower timings, especially when it's two ticks down, but it will still be stable. Any notebook RAM can run stably without the heatspreaders, but Kingston just added them for e-peen. The heatspreaders will benefit your RAM on the minimal level and it should be the least of your concerns as RAM is fairly affordable and is covered by a lifetime warranty. -
I actually wanted to do some heat tests with the 1066 and 1333 versions since I have both. Then I was to see if the copper helps more.

Right. Thanks for the explanation.
