So peeps, whats everyone using these days.... what should I be using![]()

its all up to the individual i guess. im happy with 175.75 no problems whatsoever. although the 177.39 are also good. according to some people.
-
I am waiting for the PhysX thing.
-
The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
Will this Physx thing materialize? What can we expect from it?
-
Whats this Physx thing u speak of?

No PhysX in the 8xM series yet. But many are reporting success on our G92 big brothers, the 8800GT/GTS series - 98x series. So I would say soon. I really like my 177.39 drivers. Its been a while since I've found a driver upgrade to be satisfying.
-
Perhaps this is a really dumb question, but where are people going to download all these different driver versions to experiment with? nvidia's never had anything listed for the 8m series, save for if you go to beta drivers, and even then there's only one...and from december ...and the sager support site just has the one most current one.
i guess i've just never been too curious to look, cause i'm happy with my performance -
I see...and these are all unofficial drivers?
-
Get the ones that say Clevo next to it... those have best chance for stable results usually.
-
175.70 worked great for me, especially with Crysis.
I just tried out 177.39 yesterday, and while as previously mentioned it doesn't have support yet for PhysX on the 8800M, it has a noticeable improvement with Mass Effect. I haven't tried them with Crysis yet, though. -
I use the 175.80 NBF modded drivers.
They work pretty well, and are great in Crysis, although for some reason, I cannot get DX10 to work in Company of Heroes with them. -
how do i find out my current driver?
-
Download GPUZ it tells you what drivers you have installed and the details of your GPU
-
where can i download the 177.39 driver?
-
I installed the 177.40 driver from Guru3D (you'll need to scout the thread for the modified XP 32 driver and such) and performance has been amazing. Although, the 177.40 driver has eliminated PowerMizer completely (my 8800m GTX runs at full speed no matter what it is doing with these -- no downclocking). Please note despite my 4 attempts to get nVidia GeForce PhysX working on my 8800m (which is based on G92), it did not work. Perhaps it would if I was on Vista? Maybe someone else can try.
-
Well its not working yet cause the 8800M GTX is G92x or something, the 8800M GT is G92...
drivers for the G92x should be coming shortly I think. -
I just installed 177.40 (vista64) today and they seem about the same as 177.39 in terms of crysis FPS and 3dmark06 scores. No PhysX yet either for my 8800M GTX but as Garandhero stated, it should be coming soon.
-
Do you need a modded INF for the ones dl'ed off of guru3d?
-
looks like i might have to install these new 177.40 drivers..!!

I've tried the 177.39 and 177.35 drivers. Before that, I only had used the 175.80 set which were ok, but I love being a guinea pig for new drivers. All of the 177.xx series were roughly the same for my setup, though I noticed small gains in fps (about 3 average, heh) in the 177.40 set. Of course with any driver, your mileage may vary.
Edit: Also, your 3DMark score will drop with these 177.40 drivers by a few hundred points, but what's to worry about that if the image quality and performance of actual games are good? -
Just installed and tested the 177.41 WHQL drivers from nvidia with a 177.39 modded ini. My 3DMark score dropped from my running 3DMark 06 score of 10,050 to 9,873. So like ettornio said, it drop a couple hundred points. Not sure yet how it feel in game, we'll see. If its no good, then back to 17.39 for me. No PhysX in this driver either. Still waiting nVidia!
-
Yea the 177.41 dropped me from like 8897 ish (167.43) to 8627 ish 270 pt. drop....
dissapointed since they were first new drivers other than stock I have tried... I'll probally give 177.39 a try now. -
I use Laptopvideo2go 175.80 on XP 32 bit. So far, it seems good for Crysis (best by far) UT3 and even old Jedi Outcast. It even gives me about 90 more 3dmarks.
-
Don't worry about 3dmark, focus on games.
-
I have. The only reason I use that driver is because it works the best in games. I'm just saying it does all that, plus some more 3d marks as well.
-
Bah just did 177.39 and my score was 8625.... THATS even worse than 177.41??
whats the deal ~ why is 167.43 the best outa these so far..
and I know I shouldnt worry about 3dmarks but I do like to have a high 3dmark score.. -
Just use whatever works best in games and be happy with it.
-
Neg. I want high 3dmark scores.
-
Right so
Here are my scores... whats the deal with this.
stock (167.43) 8897
stock (175.75) 8599
stock (177.39) 8625
stock (177.41) 8627
Why is it, the oldest driver has the best score? Isnt there a newer driver that should perform better in 3dmark i mean comon... my 3dmark FPS are dropping so I assume my ingame FPS will drop as well. Not to mention these scores are real low for my system specs me thinks. -
Basically what it comes down to IMO is hey look i got this score in 3dmark06 but my game play is choppy and bad vs ehh i have a bit lower score but my gameplay is amazingly smooth and enjoyable. I would choose better gameplay then an artificial score which doesn't give an accurate benchmark cause it also involves the CPU. And keep in mind similar systems/cards all have different drivers it works best with and they can have a difference ~500 points. -
But explain this, 167.43 used to give me around 8900 3dmarks, after testing about 5 different drivers I went back to 167.43 and it gave me 8300 3dmarks.
my proccess of trying new drivers has been
Uninstall from Add/Remove Programs
Restart to Safe Mode
Run Driver Sweeper
Run Registry Cleaner
Install New Drivers
Restart Normally
I am at a loss... anyway I got 177.41 now with 3dmark scores of 8600ish...
(300 pts off my old stock 167.43 scores) -
That happens to quite a few people, not sure why but it could be that when you ran it with stock drivers you had different things running the background different applications or something, and in the time between the stock and all the other drivers you tested some stuff on the laptop has changed thus affecting the score cause the CPU also plays a big role.
And the 177.xx drivers are known to give you lower 3dmarks scores, on Guru3d and L2V2GO many 8800mgtx users have reported lower scores but smoother play. -
Nah I always make sure I got about 50 procceses before I run..
Oh well. Got 177.41 installed now I'll see how they are in LOTRO. -
Agreed. I found the driver to be far smoother in game play versus other drivers. Recommended. Hopefully next drivers have PhysX....
-
so which current driver is the best?
and what tweaking do i need to do after that?
how bout the gpu bios update?
^^ -
There is no best driver that applies to everyone. Different systems will react differently to different Drivers so you have to try them out and see for yourself as was the case for me. There really is no tweaking to do after that other than OC'ing your card. GPU Bios do not need to be updated as long as you are not OC'ing your card.
-
i dont really care about 3dmark score. i just want better performance and quality in gameplay. do u think i should use the new driver instead of the official sager one?
^^ -
Usually the newer ones tend to be better but you alone should be the final one to decide.
