    Hey guys,

I was in the market for a nice pair of headsets for my 8130. I'm kinda confused with some of the jacks on some of the headsets (for example the turtle beach z6a has USB and 4 connectors). I was wondering what headset u guys you would recommend, preferably one that has 5.1 surround sound.

    Thanks

I don't have any recommendations for headsets, as I prefer straight headphones myself. However, I will say that in general 5.1 surround sound headsets are gimmicky. You'll probably get better quality sound from regular old stereo headsets than you will from the 5.1 models. Most of the surround sound sets use software or other iffy ways of turning stereo output into extra channels.

Gaming headphones are snake oil. They are overpriced to take advantage of 'rich' gamers. Many of them are flimsy and will fall apart within 24 months of careful use. Sound fidelity is average.

Your best bet is to get a USB Creative X-Fi Pro, and then head over to the head-fi.org forums to figure out what headset best suits your needs.

it is a bit more expensive... but it really works. althought if u are not playing any fps games the 5.1 or 7.1 makes no difference.

I have the Logitech G35 headset, and I can't honestly recommend it for comfort (too tight, especially with eyeglasses, and not enough padding). Sound quality is good enough for me, but I'm not an audiophile.

Headsets are a waste of money.

I've owned plenty of those in the past and to be honest they don't last long. I decided to ditch that junk and get some serious stereo headphones with great sound quality.

Also you could get a USB mic, which has much better quality than what I previously owned.

If you want some serious headphones look into Sennheiser (the headphones, not headsets!)

Unless you have trained ears, you would not know the difference between a $50 headphone and a $200 headphone.

On the other hand, pair your $50 headphone with a quality equalizer and amp, and you'll beat the $200 headphone.

And of course, all of these are SUBJECTIVE.

I beg to differ. With the same output, the difference between the two is like night and day. Good quality headphones are usually found above $100. You can still get decent audio from $50 headphones, but if you've tried higher quality ones, it's pretty hard to go back :p I agree on the bolded part though.

To the OP: If you absolutely need a headset, cheap options are the Plantronics 377 or the 777 ( quite cheap on newegg right now). The G35 is also good if you can find it cheap.

More expensive option would be the MMX300, but best bet would to go for some decent headphones + mic.

get some high quality headphones for the same price as a headset, and then buy a clip on microphone seperately. That way you'll have better audio, and better speakage.
