Hey everyone, I am going to order an NP8662, but I am unsure exactly how to get Windows 7 the cheapest possible way.

I have Windows XP cd keys from OEM Dell, and I was thinking of buying an upgrade disc for $50... Is it smarter to just buy Vista from Xotic for $117, and get the free upgrade, or do you think I should buy the upgrade disc?

Well, the OEM OS is installed on this computer right now... So you're saying I wouldn't be able to use that?

No. If you have activated XP on that laptop, it will only install in that laptop. That's the difference between OEM and Retail (you can use the the serial for a new computer).

By the way, I'm not too sure about the XP to Windows 7 upgrade. I would either do more research on this, or simply get the NP8662 with Vista Home Premium- at least this way, you're guaranteed to get Windows 7 for free.

If you call Microsoft and tell them that the computer with OEM installed is having a hardware malfunction ie. motherboard broke, wouldn't they able to allow to use the OEM serial for another computer? Of course, assuming that the OS is completely deleted from the older computer and all....
