Whoa..just noticed that I get a free copy of xp pro 64bit with my order from PCMW - didn't even notice that!

So - question is, with the newer versions of DirectX is it just better to go with vista right now? (I can switch to vista business for free or get 25 off if I downgrade to vista premium 32/64 bit).

What would be the best OS to go with? Would XP even support the 9800GT?

Just go with Vista 64-Bit and 4GB RAM, and don't look back.

If you want 64, go with Vista. You may want to double check software compatibility if you have any mission critical apps but If you can do everything on Vista 64, then yea, I agree with Prasad.

Premium if you want Media Center (and $25 :) ), Business if you need to connect to domain based networks.

edit: here is a breakdown of the different vista versions.

XP 64-Bit is a joke, atleast so I hear. Just go with Vista Home Premium or Business 64-Bit (whichever fits your requirements better), and be happy! :p

Premium comes with DVD codecs, whereas Business does not. This may effect your decision.
