So I was wondering, what ram is everying using in their clevo / sagers? Particularly the NP9175 / Clevo P775TM-G? I'm looking to buy the best ram available for this laptop. Any sources?

    Thanks!

If you only care about stability, get some Crucial DDR4 2400 mhz ram. You'll never get a BSOD if you only use Crucial ram.

If by best, you mean faster, you can try 3000MHz ones by G.Skill. However, not likely to be worth the price for tiny a performance gain.

3000mhz is reasonably priced. There are specialty kits more aimed at the itx x299 up to 4000mhz, but the IMC won't reach that in notebooks.

Thanks for the reply. What's your thoughts on speed? Do you think 64GB of Ram would be neccesary? I do video editing as well / motion graphics, so after effects has me considering a stick that can perform well both for gaming and multimedia.

I saw this and am thinking about picking this up. Would these be a good choice guys?

How long is a piece of string? Your RAM requirements depend on your workload. I can see from your signature that you have 32 GB RAM. If this is sufficient for what you do, then don't get 64 GB of RAM and vice versa. You will gain very little performance from RAM clocked at 3200 mhz vs 2400mhz, so it's better to stick with the lower clocked ram for stability.

In any case click on the link below for guidelines for testing the stability of RAM and IMC: https://forums.anandtech.com/thread...-memory-stability-testing-guidelines.2195063/

Monitor your usage, if you hit the cap and slow down then you need more. Go for 2666mhz or 2800Mhz at least if you can reasonably price wise.

Thanks Rampant. I do motion graphics, video editing, graphic design, as well as gaming. For the 32GB I have now I have pretty decent speeds with my 1666 Mhz stick in most of these areas, but video editing always seems to be lack luster for me (decent, but underwhelming in terms of rendering times). Because of this my thoughts are to spend a bit more on Ram and SSD storage, which isn't a problem for me.

I went ahead and went with the 32 GB kit at 3000 Mhz for now, Once my laptop arrives my plan is to grab another 32 - just in case. Not something super high end (3200), but a bit above average to make rendering a bit smoother. I know for gaming, it may seem a bit like overkill, but for after effects, looking at rendering times in the past, I think I'll bite the bullet and make the investment!

Darn me and my love for animation! lol

I'll be sure to update my sig once I have it all set up. Thanks so much guys in helping me with this!

Rendering speed is generally affected the most by CPU and GPU performance. If a render takes 15 GB RAM to process, and you have 32GB, getting more RAM won't speed up your render. However if a render takes 30/32GB of RAM, then you would see an increase in performance if you added more ram.

There are a few % to be gained up to around 3000mhz.

That's fine. I don't think there's any harm done in investing in a bit of overhead in terms of ram, since I know that with the projects I do, After effects eats it up like breakfast. Which is fine. I always max out my laptop's ram anyway, so I was planning on doing this regardless. I just wanted to know what the best brands were for the kit so I knew what brand to buy.

I'm expecting to have a i7 8700k for the CPU and a GTX 1080 for the GPU. In combination with 64GB of ram, I'm basically looking to future proof this setup to last me a long while.

The corsair vengeance you linked to is very good. I agree with Meaker, go with 2666MHz at least, which is the standard now. Other brands that are also very good are the G.Skill Ripjaws, Crucial Ballistix and Kingston HyperX, among others.

32 is probably a sweet spot for content creation, I don't think I've seen anything max out 64 that wasn't a huge database server. 16 is usually enough for gaming.

If you're wanting to top things off/future proof as much as possible, consider the Kingston HyperX 2666 sets. Samsung also produces some very reliable modules.

2 sticks of 16gb 2666mhz so you can pop more in if you need it sounds sensible to me.
