    Hey,

I'm thinking about getting the Sager NP8760 / Clevo W870CU (From Kobalt, known as the "G870" :))

However, I was wondering... is it the right time to buy this laptop? Does anyone know if anything better is coming right around the corner?

I'd be willing to wait if there is something in the pipeline, or should I just get it now?

    Thanks

    hi xman.
keep an eye on the kobalt forum (in sig below) as there are some new toys on the horizon but they are not for gamers. i7 but intergrated graphics so quite a bit cheaper.
no more details have been released yet but the forum will be your best place to look.
not heard of any new gaming notebooks but you never know when companys like clevo release them.

The W870CU was available at the end of September for purchase, so it's only about 2.5 months old (It was technically "unveiled" by Clevo around June, but wasn't available for purchase). I don't think you'll see a replacement any time soon.

I would wait till end of Jan 2010 to check for Ati 5870 notebook.. but it's just me as I already have a powerful Dell.
CES will officially present the new ATI chip on the 6th Jan.
    Cheers

If you already have something pretty decent right now, you should wait until a better GPU comes out.

There's always something better coming out in a few months. This is the nature of the industry.

If you need to buy now, buy now. If you can wait, decide what you want to wait for, then buy when you can get it.

Understand that no matter what you buy and when you buy it, it will be obsolete in short order.

Yup, there will always be something around the corner. So me personally if the 8760 is the one you want and you have the money I would go for it.

Talking of battery life... that is the only thing putting me off of this laptop... It has a battery life of just an hour?! I will be using it as a desktop replacement - but it still would be nice to maybe take it in the car on a long journey and have it last maybe 2 hours or so :(

Are there any gaming laptops out there with better battery? Or can I buy a better battery for this laptop?

I think the Alienware M15X might have a bit better battery life. If you want you could buy another battery for the Sager. Then when the first one dies, just put the computer into Hibernate and slap the new one in. Or on car rides just get a inverter and plug the charger in well using it. This will most likely be the cheapest and most practical way if you want to use it in a car and it was I do when I go on trips in the car.
