hi guys,
i apologize for this question, cause i kno it has been asked many times b4....but what are the best drivers for the 9800M GTS, on Vista64?
-
180.10 drivers from laptopvideo2go.com
-
those drivers dont currently support the 9800M GTS
-
None of them technically do, unless you get the modded inf also.
-
ok...but do these 180.10 drivers support the downclocking of the GPU when its idle, like the current drivers that i am using do???? im using 176.somethng
-
I think they all do? It never hurts to try...
Edit: Just read the comments, I don't recommend this driver. It's sort of unstable sounding -_- -
It works on the 9800m gts with the modded driver, and I have had zero problems with the driver so far. So I would go ahead and install it. If you dont like it or experience problems, then just roll it back.
-
What drivers would be best for a NP5793 w/ 8800M GTX and WinXP32?
-
I recommend the 177.79 and 179.13 for the GTX and XP, they offer good performance and stability.
-
Alright, thank you
-
No probs with 179.XX here.

178.15 is working fine for me
-
hi,
what are the best drivers for a 9800m gtx?
thanks in advance -
180.10 without a doubt. Supports full scaling from 2D to Extra. Will give you the best performance both in synth and real benching.
-
how about 180.42?
-
Testing those right now
-
I had really high temps with the 180.10 drivers so I went back to 178.24. I hope the 180.42 drivers are a lot better.
-
Temps were lower on mine. By about 5C...
-
-
That's strange, the temps were the first thing I noticed. The best temps I ever had were with the 178.15 drivers where my GPU idled at 51C. Now with the 180.42 drivers, my GPU idles at 53-54C. Insignificant difference but still.
-
Emike, is your extra gpu settings missing too? I know longer have gpu under my power options
. Oh well.
-
Thats weird MrPresident, I have been surfing the internet for about an hour and a half now and the highest I have gotten to is 45C. I have a 9800m GT though.
-
on 180.42, my 8800M GTX (OC) is idling at 47°C
-
What do you think is the best driver for the 9800GTX?
-
As far as I can tell, the drivers benefits are the same or at least very similar between the graphics cards. Thus, anyone that is listed in this thread so far would be good.
-
I believe it to be the best driver for 9800M GTX. Actually, I think the 180.10 felt better, might be something else though. My cool extra GPU featuers are gone, but the additional 2-3fps in crysis are worth it to me.
-
I like the 180.42 drivers.
-
wt's difference between 178.15 and 178.24?
just the WQHL thing? -
If one of those two is WQHL, usually the only difference is the fact that one is guaranteed by microsoft, while the other is not. A driver difference like that is usually not enough to make a difference, but it doesn't hurt to upgrade.
-
i have 178.24, so far giving me the best performance in crysis...oh, and my idle temperature is 31C for GPU and 18/20C for each of the CPU cores...this thing runs hella cool
-
@theriko,
any problems installing 180.42 on your 8800gtx. im gonna update to these drivers soon before playing far cry 2. -
Right now im running 180.10 and everything seems good but if you are getting better perfomance with 178.24, i might switch to those. -
I'm running 180.42 with no problems on my 8800mgtx
@deedeeman - what is the ambient temperature where you are? Must be pretty chilly for your lappie to be running that cold... -
hmm its strange
it said cant find the right hardware and wont let me install -
Did you use the moddified inf and the "have disk" method?
-
-
well, you should have downloaded the modified inf that accompanies the driver in the specific thread. Then you will extract the driver files and replace the inf in that new folder with the modded inf. Once that is done, you will go to the device manager and choose update driver. You then click on "let me choose my own" (or something like that. not the automatic one). Then choose "dont search I will choose" and then it will come up with a screen that shows compatible hardware. At this point there should be a thing that says have disk. Press that and browse to the extracted folder. Then you should be able to install. I did this off the top of my head so it may not be right, but its pretty similar to what you should see. Ill find the link on laptopvideo2go and post it so you have a better explanation.

There you go, thats the actual link on lv2go. I suggest you go with the 180.42 drivers as thats what I am on and it seems to be working really good. Of course, everyone has their own preferences, so it is important to read this thread to see what others say and choose the one you like best. I just like being up to date and the temps seem to be really good with 180.42. -
-
what is it with you yanks using silly temperature scales. You use °C for the laptop temp measurements...
I'd be extremely surprised if your cpu is idling at/under room temp (68-70°F - 20°C). I'd check your readings if I were you. (since it'd be physically impossible for your cpu to be at less than room temp without active cooling (ie phase change, etc)
