    Best/Highest CPU an NP9262 can take: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 @3.0GHz.

You will need BIOS .22 and KBC/EC .13N.

    Thanks for the reply
Is it even worth it since I already have that one overclocked to 3GHz.

So it's a bios update but what is the kbc/ec .13n

You already have a quad @ 3,0 GHz there is no point in upgrading unless you do a lot of CPU only intensive stuff. If you are "just" gaming than don't upgrade. Save the money for your next laptop.

Only specific technical reasons there are to get a Q9650 over a Q6600 are as follows:

    -Smaller manufacturing process (45nm)
-Uses less voltage; outputs less heat
-Has the SSE 4.2 instruction set

Unless you require the SSE 4.2 instruction set, you're fine with the Q6600 @3.0GHz.

The x3380 runs at 3.16 and it goes in.

There is one x3380 OEM on ebay for 350 USD.

I could upgrade from a Q9650 to a x3380? What other software would I need?
Finally would it really be worth it in terms of performance?

Yes, you can upgrade. Increase in performance 0.15 GHz.

You could spend over $300 to see absolutely no performance difference in gaming, or noticeable system speed difference. You are better of saving that for your next laptop or spending it on an SSD.

Depends how much he gets on the Q9650 if he sells it afterwards. The actual upgrade price may not be that high.

The truth is that there will be no difference between q9650 and x3380. 0.15 GHz (5 %) will not appear even in the benchmarks. Maybe there is some other benefits from the xeon technology.

You should check out this review. It's the QX9650 vs QX6850, that's basically the decision you're looking at.

Note the power usage and encoding numbers.

It sounds to me that I should save my money for the 9262 replacement. Thanks.
