    hey guys,

Months ago, my headphone hack (Sager NP5790 more or less) went bad; I asked around and it sounded like a bit of a risk for me to go in and solder around so I've just left it.. life's been too busy for me to risk killing my beloved laptop :)

I make do using the Mic jack configured for output, but it is nowhere near as good as the real headphone jack. Anyone have experience with this sort of thing?

    - if things are configured just-so, should the non-mic jacks sound nearly as good as the headphone? Or, being a non-mic jack with different amp etc, is it just doomed to sound terrible?

    - any suggestions on tweaking to get the best sound from mic?

I suppose there is that S/PDIF port on the front, too; I've never looked into it, as I keep reading about this or that adapter being needed.

Is there an SPDIF->headphone adapter? Anything special about the Clevo S/PDIF port? (looks like a headphone jack to me :)

I would be interested in knowing this as well.

My headphone port has a piece of the green ring that has broken off, making the headphone jack a bit loose in the port. It still works, but if the remaining part of the ring breaks off then it will become unusable.

The front is not really the best place for the mic, headphone and other ports. Especially if you have it on your lap on a base. Can the ports be replaced?
