I searched this thread and didn't find anything answering my specific question I had. I was wondering what would be the best laptop cooler for my new P150HM with an AMD 6990m? I am not experiencing super high temps but I would like to run as cool as possible. Has anyone had any experience with laptop coolers with this specific laptop model? Thanks for anyone who has advice! =D

Coolermaster u3 works well with mine. Got 3-4 degree drop out of it.

Zalman 3000U. Got it with my laptop as a package deal. Does the job very nicely.

I have both zalman nc2000 and notepal u3, there's no story, U3 is amazing.
You can setup the fans like you want, mine shoot directly to the gpu/CPU vents.
Like others said probably I've cut my temps about 4-5c.

I had the best cooler in the form of the cooler master sf 19. It would lower my temperatures by a measly 3 degrees in my tropical country.
I've since sold it and use a bottle cap to prop up my laptops back and know my temps are lower by 10-15 c

ok guys, he is talking about a 15inch, enough with the u3 already, I had it , its fine, you can get the u2 for 15inches! I have owned about half a dozen coolers (enermax aeolus, cryo lx, u3, zalman nc3000) i am really starting to think that a stand which leaves a lil space at the bottom is the best solution. I have had 5C cooler with most of them except cryo lx I got a 12C drop with my old gateway fx with 8800M GTS!!! yeah! It might have been that gateway had a crappy cooling sys then (just one vent) still!

I'm using this Targus Chillmat for my P150HM (w/ 6990m). Got it from HP for $20. Fits really nicely dimension-wise, and it's done a great job so far.

The internal fans in this laptop is strong enough to cool the laptop. It just needs more bottom space to suck in more air which you will get by propping up the back of your laptop.

    That's it? o_O

For the P150HM I think the CoolerMaster U2 would be perfect.

I use the U3 for my Qosmio and it drops temps considerably. roughly 10*C on the CPU and around 8-10*C on the GPU.

I bought this one an it works great.

Actually the cooling system in the p150hm is good enough without a cooling pad. But I definitely noticed a 3-5C difference when you are gaming while using the cooling pad.

    Hi everyone!

I was wondering...i have a cooler working on USB 2.0...

I m waiting my laptop which has a USB 3.0 port. I know that USB 3 has more power than USB 2 (i saw 7V when USB 2 got 5V but i m not sure...)

My question is, if i plug my cooler on the USB 3.0...will fans run faster? or the cooler will be kept at 5V? I know that with alternative electricity, it's the consumption of the objects that rules the power, but not the Voltage. (example: put a 110V light on 220V, it will light much better...and die much quicker as well ^^)

    Waiting your expert answers!

    Thx!

USB 3.0 doesn't necessarily provide more voltage. It's rated for up to 900mA, but the minimum voltage is only required to be 4v. Also, no, the fans won't spin any faster with more voltage in a cooler. They're usually limited via resistor or other methods, or they have a built in potentiometer to adjust speed to a specified maximum. I've never seen a cooling pad running faster or slower on USB 2.0/3.0

    Thx for the help Mali!

I saw that my notepal U2 was quite good for my P150HM anyway, so i guess it's not really important now...

I should receive it this afternoon ^^ (no need to say how i feel...)

    Review soon!

sort of on the side but is the cooling improvement 'flat'? like does it make it around 5c cooler on all situations i.e. when idle, playing games stock clock, OC'd, or does it lower temps more or less depending on how hot the laptop is working?

Generally speaking, it should work better the warmer the laptop is. That's because at lower temps, there's not much heat it can wick away. At higher temps, the extra airflow can pull more heat away from the (now much warmer) notebook. This depends heavily on the cooler fan placement though.

I haven't even repasted my laptop yet so I might end up going with a U2 cooler and ic7 thermal to keep my temps low. I notice that when its 70-80f in my room that my laptop seems to want to run close to or over 80c gaming. That's not ideal for me, so I plan to go with a u2 cooler and that thermal. I'll post my results before/after I do both solutions.

Coolermaster U2 works great and also Arctic Cooler 4 thermal compound... they do the job.
