    hi

i am based in the UK and want to buy a d900f. the best price i have found so far is US$1198.80 for barebones at

    http://www.leadcomp.com/parts.asp?PRID=13589

i would prefer to buy in UK, but not critical.

any ideas on where i can get the best price would be highly appreciated.

i will buy the disks, ram and cpu from ebay; any ideas on these also welcome!

    thanks!

PS if anyone fancies getting involved in a group purchase, let me know please.

yes but they are in america.Location: TWINSBURG, OH 44087
once youve paid import duty that bumps the price up.
then if theres a fault and you have to return it you have to pay courier and insurance both ways and then have to wait a lot longer for return so the decission is upto you.

and alternative screens may be available for this model but just not on the website.not 100% sure on this but they are for other models so maybe for 900F as well.

You should also check here Novatech UK

If you buy from the US, you could end up paying up to £200 worth in import VAT, probably more.

No probs dude anytime, just depends what your into, if you want it for gaming definatly go QX9300 + GTX 280m SLI,
If its high power processing then go for the i7 + Single GTX280m :)

Depending on the type of mobile i7 chip, the QX9300 can still rival it though.

    I meant desktop i7 :)
As the D900F uses LGA 1366, maybe mobile does too?
If your into high performance computing then a desktop i7, even a 920 is better value than a QX9300 which would rival it, the 975 on the other hand has no competitiors in the Mobile-CPU field

thanks - already contacted him. he sells the 975 280m 6gb pc1333 for £2100 but at the moment this looks like a MUCH better:

    barebones (with 280m)
    + 2 x 256gb FAST samsung ssds
    + 500gb 7200rpm + either 2 x xeon e5530 or 1 975 cpu
    + 4gb pc1333 cl9 (2x2)

is working out best - touch under £2,000

not sure on cpu choice yet - can get a zeon w5580 for similar price. im using the laptop for maths (matlab & mathematca) and programming. i have never played a computer game. multi-boot windows 7 ultimate (64 & 32) + suse linux + proprietary system.

i realise the warranty difficulties but after having apid for onsite warranties from toshiba and dell, they seem useless. i can insure my laptop for damage+loss+theft for < £150/annum instead!

    thanks again mutant!

all ideas stll most welcome from anyone!

your right thats a better deal, thats the new xeon?
Man those things are EXPENSIVE like £1200 right?
I'm liking the SSDs and the price, if you get that xeon and all for under £2100 then thats an amazing deal, the TDP on Xeons is about ~90W the i7 Desktops is about ~130W so itll last longer on battery too

    Nice one dude!
If you dont mind my asking, iv been looking for ES CPUs and i cant find any, i dont think you can get them on eBay as i recently had my OEM Win Vista listing taken down as it was not meant for private sale much like an ES,
Im not gonna go for the hexacore yet... Wait till Clevo come out with a botebook with 380M SLI and an i7/Xeon chip thats hexacored ;)

I was looking at Dell servers for my dad and Dell absolutely take the biscuit when you try and upgrade CPUs in their new PowerEdge ones sx W5580's is Near £3000!

i have friends in asia who can source intel ES procs including 6-core. ill let you know prices once they get back to me. if you are after a specific proc, send me a private message and i will find out for you. only drawback is it may take a month to get them!

personally, im after value so im not after any particular cpu; i can work with a 920 - it just means leaving processes running longer or overnight.

    cheers

    thanks again!
