I have no idea if the bios would recognise an x3380. If it works with an x3360, it may work with an x3380, but it's not certain. Apart from bios I see no reason why it couldn't work.

in the world of high end cpus...that 160 mhz makes quite a bit of difference in a variety of programs... ask anyone running a q9550 and anyone running a q9650...oops...that was me..and did i notice a big difference ....yessir i did..lol. that's why the q9550 is not in here at the moment. so do i think that 160mhz is gonna make a difference...yes sir i do...
just check some of my benchmarks running both cpu's... now i wonder how much more we would gain using the setfsb method though...but since it will never work, we will never know.
man!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i been asking them...they are not going for it one bit! i keep getting shot down.
too bad they want so much, else i might have given it a go.. i already tried a x6800 just to see if it could be pin modded, but that didn't work.... -
johnksss you are right for the 160mhz more but did they really worth the extra money compare to Q9650 and in the programs i dont know but in games i bet that the Q9xxx series are muche better then X33xx series well intel have the final word X33xx-- Server Q9xxx Personal Computer
the money is yours you can buy anything you want i think that X3380 will work in D901C laptop
but to be sure just go to some pc shop and ask them to try it there in your laptop -

I do not care about gaming. I run sometimes programs for days on 3-4 cores. Xeon would generate less heat.

I have a X3370 in my 9262, so I don't see why the 3380 would not work. Dual-booted for XP64 and Vista64, no issues. Except, of course, Microsoft issues...hardware works great. Same goes for the Intel X25m SSD.
FWIW.. -
just dont want to shell out 600 plus on it right now to find out, but im thinking it would work.....hummm...i7 or x3380.......
what kind of numbers are you pulling with the x3370? -
will the i7 work in the 9262?
-
no...it will not work....
-
didn't think so =(

Hopefully soon, someone here will be able to verify that the X3380 does work on the 9262.
After that, it's just a waiting game for the price to come down to the $200-$300 range. By then, it should be a no brainer to upgrade. -
On another note, I read that there is a new bios update for the 901c.
Would this clear any issues for the latest 45nm processors? -
Nothing new on clevos servers since december '08
Best processor for NP9262
