So I am proud owner of the np8130 for almost 6 years! All my gaming laptops prior never lasted longer than 3 years. Anyway, it might be the end of this comp's life. I can't play heroes of the storm, a very light game, without it crashing every game. I played the game for a year with no problems and blizzard isn't helping me out. What can I do to update this computer to the max? I update the gpu driver to no avail. I also don't update windows 7 because it instantly slows down my comp. I tired windows 10 but it ran the game even worse and crashed. Do I need to update windows? What other drivers should I update? I also remember some bios update - I did it once but I've reformatted the comp numerous times so I'm not sure if that was undone. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

you might want to check your CPU and/or GPU temperatures during load (playing the game): https://www.hwinfo.com/download.php

the crashes might be due to high temperatures on your components. if the temps are fine, this might be the first potential sign of your gpu failing. you should include your full specs btw, makes it easier to help you out :)

You should always update Windows, whichever version you use. Your drivers, too; those can always be rolled back if an update doesn't pan out.

And yes, let us know your specs!

Thanks for the replies. I don't think this is an over heating crash because the comp doesn't shut off. The comp flickers for a few seconds between the game and the desktop before the game crashes but I can still continue to use my comp. I monitored the temps and they both hover around 70c during game and max out at 81-84c. I have the 460m graphics card. I will go ahead and test out updating windows 7.

I can't say updating Windows will fix your issue(s), but you never know.

@jaybee83 has a point; this could be a prognostic symptom of a failing video card.

Took me 2 days to update windows and I had to reformat! Had to do 10+ workarounds because windows update kept getting stuck on updating or searching. Anyway after all that, it still crashes with nothing else on the computer. Will try another game and changing the thermal paste. If it still crashes then, I'll be looking for a new comp. If you guys know of anything else I can do please let me know. All component drivers are the latest I could find.

You might try reflashing the video BIOS, but honestly, it's sounding like the card is on its way out.
