So I've had the bigfoot 1103 wireless card almost a year now and get constant disconnects with it every hour or so with signal dropping to 0 and then coming back 30 seconds later. Do you suggest I switch it with an intel one, and if so, which Intel one should I buy and where can I buy it in a store?

Have you tried the latest beta driver/software from killer gaming?
Killer Gaming :: Support :: Driver Downloads

If you're sure it isn't due to any of your notebook hardware/settings,router or the 3 antennas connected to it then contact the place you got it from about an exchange.

If you have other issues changing the card won't help.

Here's my Killer 1103 and Netgear R6300 pairing on the 5ghz band.

I'm considering getting a different wireless card for the same reason. I read about others having this same problem towards the beginning of owning my p170em last year in July. My 1103 worked fine though, didn't understand what was wrong with all the other people posting about the random disconnects. Then it started happening to me around and got worse/more frequent over time. I tried updated drivers, I tried installing Atheros drivers as this has apparently helped others, but I still got the random disconnects. I did recently install the latest killer drivers that has the windows 8 style UI. So far I haven't had as many disconnects, but I have had a couple. If this continues, I may just go ahead and get an intel 6300.

I have an Intel Wireless N 6235 and it hasn't given me any trouble. I believe it has WiDi like the 6300 but the 6300 has three antennas as opposed to two.

I have a brand new NP9150 with the Killer 1103 and was getting these disconnects. Updated to the latest beta drivers from Killer website, disabled Atheros bandwidth control and disabled the Killer network manager. Haven't thoroughly tested it but I don't think it fully worked. I bought an Intel 6300 and will be switching over.

yeah this is kind of ridiculous from my 1102, I was on campus majority of the time this past year so I never had to deal with it... as far as I know when I bought my p170(8170) back in 2011 my 1102 card was working and didnt drop my connection... now it's dropping all the freakin time.

I know it's not anything to do with my router because I have about 62% signal strength, and my other wireless devices work perfectly fine(including my ux31).

im also probably going to switch to the 6300... I've given it my best shot, configuring my router to provide the ideal connection with the least amount of handshake juggling between card and router, installing barebone atheros drivers to replace that POS killer network manager(which I will note did solve the 3 minute+ long network drops but did not solve the actual network drop itself, just reduced the duration of the drops to around 10-30 seconds)

obviously having a 10-30 second network drop periodically when i do anything remotely bandwidth intensive is unacceptable from a network card that prides itself on being so good with throughput and stability

AS I TYPED THIS I had 2 connectivity drops, ridiculous... i could use powerline but the latency is just unbearable

I have had issues with my killer card disconnecting as well. Thinking of going to the Intel 3000 too

The Killers definitely 'outperform' the Intel cards, but Intel as a brand in general is very reliable, and their drivers for their mPCIe NICs are certainly a testament to that. Bigfoot (Aetheros) has had some driver issues, despite their stellar performance.

Sometimes it can depend on the router but with my asus router my 1202 has been flawless.

I "had" the 1103 in my P170EM and had constant drops. Submitted a ticket with Bigfoot. Never got a reply and after they shut down their support forum, presumedly complaining about the bad drivers, I went to the Atheros drivers. They weren't a whole heck of a lot better. I got decent connectivity with the one that came with the driver disk and the laptop but that one had a known issue with iTunes and connectivity. Finally had enough and asked Mythlogic to overnight me a Intel 6300. (Incidently, Mythlogic did NOT sell me the laptop, I discovered later they provided superior service than my original reseller so I now get all my parts from them)

After swapping out the 1103 with the 6300, I have not had a single connectivity issue since then. The Killer 1103 module sits in the same box as the 7970M I swapped out earlier (sorry...had to throw that in... LOL :) )

To answer the OP, I got the Intell 6300 from Mythlogic and am very happy with it.

I have a P170EM with Intel 6235 and I am getting disconnects just like described here. I was thinking of switching to Killer nic, but now I am doubtful it will help me.

Thanks for all the replies. On vacation in Florida and trying to find a location I could purchase the Intel 6300 without having to have it shipped. No luck yet but heard tigerdirect has a store around here. Maybe they'll have it.

Unless the card is faulty, it probably won't. You may need to make sure things on your router's end are configured properly.

That and you get a decent router, the number of people with the stock router and a $2000-3000 machine amuses me.

Sometimes disconnects are the result of needing a firmware update or perhaps DHCP settings. It's a pretty decent router. :)

I have the huge disconnect problems regardless of which router I'm connected to though. If I'm at a friends house I have huge issues as well. I have the least problems at my house, but at other houses it's 10 x's worse.

The thing is, it's pretty cheap to get a hold of one, so it's worth a shot.

Yeah, the cost and ease of installation makes it a practical and viable troubleshooting step. Just remove the Bigfoot driver when you do go to do it and then install the Intel driver.

Purchased the intel 6300 card and have had no issues with disconnects since I installed it. Let's hope it's for good. Last time I purchase Bigfoot.

Good to hear your problems are gone. Too bad we couldnt find a fix with the bigfoot but i guess whats important is being able to keep the connection even if if required a new wireless card.

The Intel cards are robust too, so I think you'll be happy with it. :)
