    Hi Guy/Gals,

Sorry if this in the wrong section..

I recently bought the MicroWorks Blackhawk Xr-5 from a friend and have a few questions. I would ask my friend but he knows just about as much as me :(

    1. Is The Blackhawk the D901C ? tried searching but cant find an answer.

    2. Is is possible to overclock the Q6700 in this system ? I had heard of someone flashing a bios from a desktop version with the same chip set that allowed him to overclock - Emailed but no reply yet.

    3. Would it be possible to undervolt the 8800m gtx's but keep them at stock speeds to reduce heat ?

    4. I have noticed one of the 8800m GTX cards runs hotter than the other,

    1st 8800m - idle 54c - load 70 - 73cc
    2nd 8800m 0 idle 60c - load 80 - 82c

I have replaced the Thermal pads but no change in temp.. would one be hotter as it sits closer to the already hot CPU ? or do I have a problem?

Last question.. does anyone know the best bios for this laptop?

    System - Blackhawk XR-5 (MicroWorks)
    8800m GTX sli
    4gb ram
    200gb 7200rpm HDD

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Bracken

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

    That notebook is a re-branded Clevo D901C.

Please refer to the Clevo Guide for all of that information... since that notebook is sold by many vendors worldwide with different names.

No, there are no BIOS options for OC'ing in this notebook. Whoever told you different is lying.

The only successful overclocking in this notebook was with the Q6600 (G0-stepping) by doing the "pin mod" ... a number of threads about it, just search for it in this forum.

You can try to customize your PowerMizer settings (in the Nvidia Control Panel)
... or use a program like RivaTuner to handle the GPU settings and monitoring.

Remember, this notebook has a Fan Toggle (Fn+1) to switch all fans to max speed or to auto speed... which is great to keep down the temps if you are worried.

    Those temps are perfectly fine.

Make sure to regularly clean out the vents and fans with compressed air and Q-tips to make sure the airflow is good.... also in the Clevo Guide (last section).

Do not know about best BIOS, but the latest BIOS for the D901C is:
    1.00.20 - which added support for 45nm quad-core CPUs (like Q9550)

Big Thanks Gophn for the welcome and for answering all my questions. :)

You have put my mind to rest about the temps of the cards, now off to read the guide and links :)

    Kind Regards
