I recently installed a 680m in my sager np8170(p170hm). It boots up fine and everything until I install the drivers for the card. After that, It goes to a blank screen after the windows boot logo.

I have tried 3 different driver versions and I get the same thing. I have been using the modded .inf file.

If anyone can help me with this THAT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

im no expert with the 680 as its so new, and as i mentioned ive never used the modded inf.
was the lv2g the first driver you tried to update or did you try the nvidia website first.

yeah, I'm thinking I got a defective card. I will contact my seller and ask for a replacement.

I tried the modded drivers and the beta drivers, as well as the drivers from sager for the EM model with the 680m. (all of these times I tried on a clean install of windows 7 as well as my up to date install I have on my 500gb drive that came with the machine.

Does your P170HM have a 3D capable screen?

Then that could be your problem, perhaps the 680M is not compatible with the 3D screen on the P170HM.

One of the most likely people to be able to help you is Prema on this thread and that's why he asked you the same question as well as the request for a Bios dump....

Prema? I don't see a post from the person you speak of...

Also, How would I go about dumping my bios? (I really only have worked with phoenix bios stuff)

Prema's is the third post down in that thread. I have never dumped the Bios but I guess it would be a matter of booting from a USB Stick that runs Dos and running the program he linked to.

No, I would just buy a new lcd panel and use that until someone finds a way to use the 120hz lcd panel with this machine.

    Update....

I plugged my laptop up to an external HDMI display and was able to run benchmarks and everything is just fine. Hopefully sometime in the NEAR future someone will figure out how to make this work with the 120hz display. I ordered a cheap 21 inch flat screen display for now, but I didn't buy this laptop to be stationary! (been meaning to get an extra lcd monitor for a while now... this was just a good excuse to get one)

Please let me know if I can help work on a fix for this!

Also, if anyone comes up with any new ideas to try to make this work PLEASE let me know!

Talk to Prema and see if he can help you mod the Dell 17x R4 GTX680 driver to work with your system.
