I've never seen a drive that will play both media formats (unless it's an STB).
Burned BRD discs do not play on BRD players (from what I have read). Right now it seems if you want to play burned BRD discs and BRD movies, you would need two drives. If my source was correct, Sony showed off the first drive that can read both burned and pressed BRD discs at CES this year.

But as far as one drive that can handle all of that AND burn/play HD DVD, I'd love to hear of one if its out there

Ah... I'm somewhat wrong on the playback of movies.

If you haven't gotten a player check newegg.com

    Found two... Lite-on
    Sony

But it seems you will have to use some utilities to play some movies. But not all movies will play on the drives without some work. Also make sure that the firmware will be upgradeable to the final BRD spec.

There should be many enclosures on newegg for what you need.

I know what you are saying man. I am the same way with new cd's. When I get a new one I always burn a copy to play and put up the original up to keep it like new. I paid too dang much for my cd collection to have them all scratched up in a couple months time. But I have originals for every copy I have too, so they can come knocking if they want to waste their time.

Yeah, I'll take a copy with me in public or when people want to borrow it, cause you guys know how people are with stuff when they borrow it.
