    Hi guys,
I preordered the NP8660 awhile back, around the time it first got posted as available for pre-order. My order has been delayed due to the fact that the Blu Ray drive is still on backorder. So my question is, should I change my order to the regular DVD/RW drive, can I purchase a Blu Ray drive and replace the one that came with the notebook? I found the following page showing the different Blu Ray notebook drives available:
    http://www.google.com/products?q=bl...a=X&oi=product_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title

Is the process of changing the drive easy? Are there any drive size issues I should look out for or does one size fits all? Do I risk any warranty issues with Sager? Is there a particular Blu Ray drive brand that is tried and tested as being reliable?

In desperate need of guidance in this area, thanks in advance.

It is possible to buy it aftermarket, but be careful what you buy as your notebook has a SATA optical drive, which is why they are in short supply (most if not all of the ones on that page are PATA).

However, as Xirurg said, you can buy one from your reseller, they may even refund your dvd drive if you tell them what you're planning now.

Thanks alot for all the advice guys, I guess I will change my order to DVD for now and get the blu ray drive from the reseller when it becomes available. I will not however go with the external BD drive suggestion since I believe it to be too impractical especially when one considers travel and stuff.

By the time you change your laptop, blu rays would be standard and better speeds will be available. Why would you want to keep an 'old age' blu ray?

Haven't received the Blu Ray yet. Using a normal optical drive for now and then my reseller is going to ship me the blu ray drive with a return package to send back the optical drive.

I called them up the other day, the blu rays should hopefully be in by the end of this month or early next month. But that's hoping, they don't have an official ETA on them.

I see you bought a WUXGA screen, a much better choice than the regular WSXGA for Blu-Ray. I think the majority of people would be wasting money if they didn't get a full Hi-Def screen.

I'd sneak in a top-range, external screen too for at home. A 15" screen is still small in my opinion for such lush' images. Make use of that brilliant HDMI connections - then your set! :D

Yeah that's the main reason for me upgrading to the WUXGA for use with the Blu Ray, in addition I have a full hd screen at home so I can hookup the HDMI as you said. All that's left is to have the Blu Ray drives ship to the reseller for them to send it to me. I must say the wait is killing me.

Excellent work! If you have quite a bit of experience opening up notebooks then a switch of the drives shouldn't be any problem at all. It's one of the easiest tasks in upgrading a notebook. :)

Never tried changing laptop drives before, and my main concern is not installation as much as choosing the right SATA BD drive. The reseller informed I would need to ship my laptop to Sager and have them change it for me, that's not going to fly since I live abroad, so shipping costs to Sager and back won't be worth it. I have been flipping through possible internal SATA drives and came up with two so far:

    http://www.saverstore.com/productin...e=Savastore&product_id=20019640&pid=10&tid=52

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827118010

Should I be worried about drive sizes at all or does one size fit all? and finally does anyone have any suggestions regarding a good SATA internal drive please let me know.
