I originally ordered my NP8660 with the blu ray drive and a WUXGA screen. when I found out the WUXGA was not in stock, I changed to the wsxga.
should I also change to a regular DVD drive? I ordered from Xotic-PC on the 24th of July, so mine probably won't be built for a couple more days, but if the drives aren't in by then, my laptop will be delayed again.
I need my laptop for college, where I will move in on the 31st. I can't wait long to have laptop parts come in to the factory.

Remember it also takes a couple of days for your order to be processed...

Will you NEED your notebook on the 31st? I mean, I've been through University and never needed to do intensive work the first couple of days. Also, I second getting the WSXGA+ for that size of screen. I debated the WUXGA for the 17" and finally chose it. But, I am dealing with a larger screen. Also, you can buy a standalone Blu-Ray player for much cheaper. I am considering buying one when the notebook drives drop to $200 or less. My three cents.

Dude, just get the blu ray with the laptop. If you ordered it, it means you wanted it. You're gonna have a bitter taste in your mouth if you cancel it just to get your lappy a couple of days earlier. Nothing beats the ability to have the CHOICE to watch blu ray movies or burn HD on your computer.
Why don't you ask your resellers to ship the blu ray optical drive at a later date, free of charge? Thats what my resellers are doing for me. -

just use library computers for a few weeks ...

When I say order I meant change. Xotic takes a couple of days to process any changes you make to your order, even if it's a warranty change... Or getting rid of an extra battery...

I see it like this: if you're going WSXGA+, you won't be able to take advantage of 1080p media, so what benefit does the BRD bring you? Yes, it will downscale to 720p, but is it worth the $495?
That's where my decision would lie. 1920x1200 would be a no-brainer, but with 1650x1050, I'd have second thoughts. -
I'm getting 1650 myself bro. I've been told that those 30 pixels for 1080 are compensated with a letterbox look.
I cannot speak for myself as I have not seen it but the general consensus is that it is terrible or horrible, its not noticeable apparantly.
Blu-Ray drive/WUXGA delay
