well hope Im not scaring anyone because its scaring me!
I need some help dealing with this because this is the second time Ive had a bluescreen when working in maya 2008. First time I thought because I had played around with particles, a very light scene but still, it felt very weird, and now the second time when doing just simple things. The bluescreen read something about physical memory being reached , cant make out anymore of it cause it then disappears
I dont know if the bluescreens are asscocieted with maya but any advice would be very much appricieted. I havent updated any drivers for anything, just the ones that came with the cd.
thanks for any help guys, please tell me that this is a software issue (xp) and not a hardware one, my temps are fine HD idles at 53 and everything else is fine.
thanks

Is there a Minidump Folder in the Windows Directory ?
-
Update your graphics drivers, imo. Sure sounds like a driver issue if it's only in Maya and it's just a bad idea to run early drivers for a newish graphics card on a graphics heavy editing program. Imo, go update all your drivers in general, especially graphics + chipset.
Check your event log as well and see where those errors point to. -
Andy: yes there is a minidump folder in the windows folder
Mini100108-01.dmp
Mini100208-01.dmp
Tarentum: ok I will do that, Im using xp 32 bit, should I update to 179.13 from laptopvideo2go.com? Is there any particular site where I should get all the other drivers from?
thank you! -
I think 177.xx (previous laptopvideo2go ones) were a bit faster in one game, but I have not had any problems at all. I say try out 178.13 + use Dox's posted .inf (just replace the 178.13's .inf with that one) and see if you get any blue screens. Whenever I get a blue screen, esp during games or graphics programs, I check to see how old my drivers are as the first thing; 99 times out of 100 new drivers fix problems, especially if it's 1) a newish card or 2) a newish program (and by the way I did get a blue screen playing Mass Effect with the stock drivers before I updated). Good luck!
Let's see... I actually found fairly recent (that is, more recent than the driver cd) drivers at Clevo's download site (haha - speed from taiwan is around 3K/s)), but for the chipset drivers I went to intel's site and for the Realtek drivers I went to realtek's site (more recent, mid september - I had audio crackling that was fixed).
Since you're running XP 32bit, are you running in AHCI/SATA mode (hard drive/controllers) (did you set XP up yourself?)? If not, this would be a significant improvement heat and speed wise. The chipset drivers mentioned above (intel matrix storage manager, aka "driver fix" posted for heat issues on these forums) are only installable in XP during setup and you need to slipstream/add the drivers to your XP bootable install disc for XP to detect them (or use a Usb floppy). I posted a couple of how to posts in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=292624&page=7 -
ok thanks for the fast reply!
isnt this the latest driver for that laptop?
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/xp/179.13
and which ones should I get form this site?
http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-services/download.asp -

Also, hm, I guess Clevo hasn't updated their drivers in a whileI guess I don't recommend grabbing any of them from there then! You should be fine with the stock drivers (and/or until Clevo updates their page) for everything else, other than graphics, intel chipset, audio (Realtek's site - or let me find the faster mirror that was posted in a recent thread here). I haven't found any problems with any other drivers for this notebook (yet)
edit: Here we go, in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=304477 Much faster link than Realtek's download site, posted by theriko: ( ftp://61.56.69.18/pc/audio/WDM_R204.exe )
When you installed XP did it blue screen a few times when you initially tried to install it? Yelling about drivers and/or viruses? If so, that was XP not being able to find and load SATA controller drivers, and being unable to recognize the hard drive's interface. The setting eventually switched to XP mode/non AHCI/non SATA in BIOS for me and XP installed on a IDE mode hard drive. The only way to get an XP install to recognize SATA drivers for the SATA controller (and run your HDD and DVD-RW drive properly) is during XP setup. You need 1) intel's chipset drivers slipstreamed (or added, with a program called nLite) into the XP install disc or 2) a usb *FLOPPY* with a floppy disk containing the drivers, during XP install.
This should really be a sticky on these forums and/or the windows forums. "XP and SATA drives - how to get XP to recognize your SATA controller properly." There isn't one that I've found (right guys? >.>)
(By the way: you should also be running XP SP3, or have the multicore fix installed on XP SP2, as XP also does not properly recognize multi-core cpus without either). -
Can you zip both of them, and upload as an attachment ?
-
Andy: japp here you go : )
Tarentum: Feeling a bit dumb here but, but Im learing a lot aswell, searching at intels homepage now, what chipset do I have ? where can I find that? doesnt say in dxdiag or system/device managerAttached Files:

) is an "Intel ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller." Knowing this isn't a huge problem, as intel offers all its drivers in a bundled pack (unfortunately, in .exe form - you need to find the 'downloadable' or .zip format on intel's file (extract it, use nLite to add it to your windows XP install (as 'textmode drivers'), after you make an image of the install, burn it, set up XP with SATA drivers).
Andy's advice is also good; look at dump files / error logs - in case it's another software issue, or hardware (especially ram, ick), but usually I check to see if stuff is updated first, and hope it's a driver issue (as that's usually a simple thing to fix and faster).
VV Yeah, the stock audio drivers are particularly bad. I guess they're crash-worthy bad. -
Update or Change this Driver.
-
Tarentum: thanks for your taking yout time, really appriciete it, didnt know it was such a "struggle" to update ones drivers on a laptop. Anyways Im not sure if Ive located the right drivers for me but this is what I found out
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/fil...+XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go!
http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-029319.htm
Im assuming that by bundle pack you meant the chipset, SATA drivers are in one pack?
Andy: thanks man, Ill update all the drivers that I can
and should I get 178.13 or 179.13 seeing that 179.13 are the latest?
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers -
Those are the GPU drivers ?
The problem seems to be caused by the Realtek driver ^. -
Just stick with 178.13 at this point. The 179.13 is an Alienware specific driver, and is untested at this point.
Also, listen to Andy! -
Andy: yeah I guess they are but I dont quite understand cause from their download center you can chose chpiset as an option -> laptop chipset ->
Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family since its PM45 Im guessing that it belongs to the 4 series family correct? and from there I cant view anything that has to do with motherboard drivers? and when I google for Mobile Intel PM45 chipset drivers I got the other link which essintially pointed to the same thing?
Im downloading the realtek audio driver from Tarentus edited post which I unfortuantly missed before. About the IDE and SATA yeah checking with device manager IDE is listed instead. So cleaning the computer with XP and installing SATA drivers from scratch is the only way? but then again I dont quite get this part
*You need 1) intel's chipset drivers slipstreamed (or added, with a program called nLite) into the XP install disc or 2) a usb *FLOPPY* with a floppy disk containing the drivers, during XP install.*
So basically I have take my current XP cd, find the correct drivers (which I havent and have no ide now on what they are, confused) and burn them with nLite? and reinstall XP ? and then Ill update my nvidia drivers and lastly the audio drivers. One more question then, what about all the drivers that fallowed with the computer? which ones are being cancelled out by the new onces that I have to update? -
So yeah, sounds like the audio drivers are causing the blue screens, so do that first, but the following is highly recommended for other reasons (1) faster HDD performance - especially crucial for SATA2 HDDs, which are performing at under 50% transfer speed or more as IDE drives, 2) heat issues).
Apparently someone else managed to easily switch XP over to sata drivers just by going into device manager -> selecting IDE controller -> specify location of the driver (scroll down, I specified the location of the latest Intel drivers in a zipped format below), and rebooting and switching to AHCI mode. Try that first. It didn't work for me after multiple tries, and hasn't worked on other systems I've tried. Go figure(Microsoft's posted SATA + XP method is specified as pressing F6 during setup or a repair XP setup).
But yeah: set up a SATA slipstreamed XP SP3 disc and you won't have to worry about this on any future installs, so it's sort of a one time hassle.
This is how to set up an slipstreamed XP cd (which by the way you can set up to include all sorts of things, or remove parts of XP that you don't want);
(Here is Intel's help page on it by the way: http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/imsm/sb/CS-021701.htm - tells you what to do during XP install)
1) download nLite + install (it makes an ISO/image of XP, lets you add stuff or remove stuff from it, lets you save an image, then you can burn it as well, as a bootable CD). (obviously you need a valid XP disc, a burner, and a writeable CD)
2) Grab the latest Intel matrix storage manager drivers (= driver pack for all Intel chipsets) in a *zipped* file, meant for "Raid installation using the F6 method during XP install" : http://tinyurl.com/4cpunb (This is the hardest part, I think - Intel's drivers normally come packed as an .exe and all Intel pages lead to that one, which is useless for XP SATA controller setup). Download the "f6fply32_85.zip" file, extract it somewhere.
Now - TRY going to system -> device manager -> select IDE controller -> update drivers -> point it to the extract directory, select "ICH9M-E/M" from a list, reboot and hope it worked and allows you to 1) switch the BIOS to AHCI and 2) switches your controller drivers over to SATA. This did not work for me, and does not work for many people, but it's easiest! The following SHOULD be done anyway, so you have a future XP install disc that works on new systems/saves you hassle:
3) Extract your XP cd with nLite ("make an image" - first thing it'll ask you to do). Click "add driver," select the location of your extracted "f6fply32_85.zip" zipfile (location of the stuff extracted from it, not the zip file), and add them all as *TEXTMODE* drivers (should be 2 driver files) (important! nLite won't integrate the drivers right if you don't pick this).
4) Save an image of your edited/slipstreamed XP (adding stuff into an install process = slipstreaming it in) (you can add other drivers, or remove stuff if you want as well - I recommend adding in Service Pack 3 if you don't have an XP SP3 disc already). Other useful things to integrate into your XP install: audio & graphics drivers, any other drivers that came with M860TU's drivers disc.
5) Burn the image with nLite as a bootable CD.
6) Reboot, boot from the cd, press F6, select the location of the drivers (I think you have to do this still? maybe not, if it's slipstreamed and autorecognizes them - do it anyway to be safe). When it asks you for drivers, tell it the CD drive, and it should find controller drivers - select ICH9M-E/M, and do a repair install. Most of your windows settings should not change, but it might reset a few settings
Good luck! Congrats! You've just found out how Microsoft is forcing new computer users to switch to or pick Vista! -

). Just helping him update all recommended drivers, and frankly multiple people ask about the XP/SATA thing, and a guide should be posted somewhere.
-
What is this ? Looks like the LAN/Modem driver.
-
Tarentum: very helpful of you! most appreciated! ok , So Im gonna spend the night with this hehe, tried switching to SATA the easy way, didnt work, Ill try and figure out as much of it as I can, even thou you have made a step by step process, shouldnt be any problems but, thank you again
Andy: yeah, you posted the same qoute on the first page? isnt that the realtek audio drivers that were faulty? I have updated the audio drivers now according to the link that was given by Tarentum, but I might aswell do all the procedures now that Im here. Ive learned a lot and without it I would still have been on crappy drivers and such so, nothing bad that has anything good with it I guess : )
thanks guys !! Ill update you heh, with any more problems if I encounter them on my emmm, journey? -
Can you Run > Msinfo32 > Save it as .NFO, and PM me a download link of it ?
-
hm Im sorry dont have any webspace for storage, but Ill upload it here, hope thats ok.
[edit] I see why you wanted a downloadable link for that now, pretty big for a .nfo file
Ill see what I can do -
Yeah, no probs.
Upload it on rapidshare or mediafire etc -
Try updating/changing the driver for this Realtek device (red box). This seems to be the cause of the BSODs (Rtenicxp.sys).
Maybe this is the driver. -
a quick update: I seemed to have misinterpreted some of the fallowing instructions given by Tarentum, instead of locating the downloaded zip file I just went along with what was on the list, and there was ICH9M-E/M as n option but it wasnt the downloaded driver. Now this is what I did and what happened
I went along with all the instructions but I had to chose have disk in order for me to find the correct inf file this time. So I did and chose iaAHCI.inf from the f6flpy32_85 folder. Warning comes up, system might become unstable and such. Clicked ok, reboot system. I get a quick bluescreen where system restarts, tried again, blue screen, went into BIOS, didnt see any of ACHI if that was intended, loaded system defaults hoping the bluescreen would go away, and it did, now in device manager the display looks like this instead. Im not sure if its good? or supose to look like that now?
Andy: is that my lan/network card? hm ok so Im gonna have to update that too?Attached Files:
-
-
Yep, the one below the 1394 net adapter.
Uninstall it first, search for the Rtenicxp.sys, and if it comes up, delete it, restart and reinstall a different version of the Realtek NIC. -
ok updated audio and network drivers now!
Think Im ready to go soon, this is what Ive got so far.
By using nLite I will create a xp version which will have the fallowing things included:
Service Pack 3 http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/windows-xp-service-pack-3.html
realtek audio drivers http://www.9down.com/Realtek-High-Definition-Audio-Driver-R2-04-31599/
realtek network drivers http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...d=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
SATA configuration http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...All&OSFullName=All Operating Systems&lang=eng
Intel chipset (?)
Now I played around with nLite just to see how it was and worked, Im not sure where all of these things goes into which catergory that nLite has to offer?
Obviously service pack goes into service pack but the audio and network drivers should go by drivers but i couldnt chose them as an option?
I figured that nvidia drivers arent necessary since updates comes and goes so leaving that clean would be better I think.
Now by having all of these preinstalled on the xp cd, which drivers are left to install from the orginal clevo driver cd? motherboard? which is the same thing as chipset right?
thanks again guys! whish I could repay you more than just rep points : ) -
Yep, looks like updating the drivers from within device manager worked for you
System defaults loaded in BIOS = sets itself back to AHCI. I guess it was bluescreening because you updated to SATA drivers and it was set to IDE in BIOS? (I assume) Your hard drive should be running cooler (checked temps? CPUID HWmonitor is the software to use) and probably faster.
You have 3 yellow !s in device manager. You should do a right click -> update drivers -> put in your drivers cd that came with your notebook and update the drivers (I recommend this, as installing the drivers from within the CD loads extra software that always runs - I didnt really want the fingerprint software autorunning, for example).
You don't really have to do the XP slipstreamed cd now, by the way, since your notebook controller is running on SATA drivers, but it's a good idea to have it on handYep, audio and network drivers go into drivers (make sure the drivers are unzipped and NOT in an .exe download), and specify "textmode" in nLite. Yeah, video drivers aren't essential, as XP's default video drivers are fine for a base install in the future. If you like, you can copy the entire Clevo driver cd to your hard drive, and point nLite at the right directories and add all the drivers to a custom XP cd.
Yes, motherboard = chipset = Intel PM45 Express chipset = drivers come on Intel Matrix Storage manager (or the f6flpy.zip file I mentioned if you want extractable drivers - needed for nLite). Add the drivers from the link I gave you, NOT the Clevo driver cd for the 1) chipset and 2) realtek audio - the links I provided are more recent. Anything else should be ok to add from the clevo driver cd.
Eh, repayment isn't needed. I love my notebook and it's optimized & set up correctly, and I just want others' M860TUs working as well -
ok, one last thing, I wanna be sure that I get everything right before I reinstall my OS, might aswell do it to figure it out how it works and such.
This is what I did in nLite:
Took a clean version of XP 32 bit (real cd key and disc) downloaded sp 3 intergrated it with nLite, added drivers, chose single driver, located the .inf file for the realtek audio driver and network driver (Found the audio driver in a zip format first http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDo...inition-Audio-Codecs-R204-Download-67738.html) , aswell as the iaAHCI file for SATA/motherboard if Ive understood correctly
Also read that delete after install should only be applied to PNP , dont quite get what that means but I have two PNPs and one TXT, should it still be checked?
and if it for some reason it shouldnt work according to this link
http://www.msfn.org/board/Integration-Intel-Sata-t107504.html
Ill just have my usb ready with the proper SATA drivers and fallow the instructions given by intel, (better print that page out first).
and one more thing, I havent really gotten this but, the Intel Matrix Storage manager are the motherboard drivers correct?
which are essintially the same as the SATA files? so by configuring my HD to SATA in XP install I will have the motherboard drivers installed already? Have to get that clear so there will not be any misunderstandings later on that might screw things up later for me. So after Ive installed xp again with this new cd I will only have to update my videocard drivers correct?
The qustion marks in the device manager would be, Im gussing all the drivers that I left out from the cd such as cardready driver, hot key utility (if that has a driver ) and maybe some of the optional drivers that came along, I didnt find it necessary to install those since I dont have most of them. Is it really necessary to right click update them if they dont serve any real purpose?
Otherwise Im ready to go!
[edit] I know I saw somewhere on how you could turn your usb stick into a floppy? cant find it again hm?
yapp HD temps dropped from 53-54 to 48-50Attached Files:

Oh, you have a USB floppy?* That's an easier method, and it will 100% work. Just put the f6flpy contents on it (or clevo's driver cd -> chipset contents, same thing, former is more recent) and use F6.
You can always install any other driver after you install XP, at any point. Even installing SP3 you can do at any time (but integrating it for future installs saves a LOT of time). The SATA drivers are the only thing that needs to be done via XP setup/install, since upgrading drivers via system tools -> device manager doesn't always work (didn't for me, did for others).
Yep, your 3 yellow !s are likely fingerprint, modem, and something else... it'll autodetect them, so just point it to the clevo driver cdHotkey utility's just software, and doesn't have a hardware component; I uninstalled it as I dislike useless memory resident programs (for =3= buttons?! bah).
*Oh wait, you have a USB key, not a floppy. Misread that
Yeah, I didn't figure out how to turn a USB key into a floppy either - apparently it's dependent on the USB key brand or type or something (said a friend who's messed with this extensively) ONLY, and it's either recognized by your BIOS as a floppy or isn't. I had a USB floppy on hand so used that instead. -
ok, So I made a fresh install and everything went well except for the chipset drivers. And that was what I was so uncertain about cause it seemed so strange that, looking in the clevo driver cd and in the cataloge 01chipset you see .exe install and inf file. and version number and all.
And I really got the impression that the f6flpy32_85 file would somehow install my motherboard drivers, which it didnt. It fixed the SATA and evyerhing worked, latest audio and network drivers but not chipset.
So all that time where are those drivers? I dont get it? can someone point me to the latest intel motherboard drivers because Ive searched and searched. Is it this one?
2. Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager (6905KB)

or is it this one?

Ok, you're just not reading what I wrote here or in PMs and not following directions. I explained everything multiple times and even outlined it step by step, none of which you followed; first of all you seemed to have already successfully updated your drivers and I said you didn't need to actually run the XP repair after slipstreaming the SATA drivers into your XP disc, but you did a "fresh install" anyway (which isn't even correct - a repair install is what you do for adding SATA drivers onto an XP install). I don't know what your problem is - language or what, but I've explained *everything* many times now. What else do you want? Reread what I wrote here and in PMs.
This is the fourth time I'm saying this: f6flpy32_85.zip contains the contents of Intel Matrix Storage Manager 8.5, which are the latest motherboard/chipset drivers, and you need them in an extract format to add them to your XP install. See? F6= for use during XP setup when you press F6, FLPY=floppy, 32=windows xp 32-bit, 85=version 8.5 drivers.
"Got the impression"??! I've explained what the f6flpy32_85.zip file was many times; it's not an executable and is just a source of EXTRACTED DRIVERS. Where are you getting your impressions and why can't you follow well written, clear, concise directions!? For the fifth time: YOUR MOTHERBOARD IS YOUR CHIPSET AND PART OF THAT MOTHERBOARD (south bridge) CONTAINS YOUR SATA CONTROLLER.
