Alright then..new issue.
This morning when I went to boot up my computer, it briefly flashes a blue screen which goes away too quick to read and comes up with a black screen saying:
"Sorry for the inconvienience, but due to a recent change in hardware or software windows was unable to start" something to that effect.
It then gives me the option to start in safe mode, the last known working configuration, or to start windows normally. I've been selecting start windows normally, but when it proceeds to attempt to boot it just repeats this same cycle. It seems that if I allow this to continue for several attempts, it will finally boot correctly. The last thing I installed before I shut down normally last night was BF 1942..I booted in safe mode, but now i'm unsure of what to do.![]()
Anyone have any ideas??

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
sounds like a perfect time to reformat.

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
boot up again and run system restore.

First off congrats on being at the supreme university, WAR EAGLE!!! I would try to uninstall BF1942 first, then go to the C:\Program Files\**bf 1942** (not sure what the folder name would be) and delete that folder. If you have a registry cleaner then I would use that afterward. If you don't then http://ccleaner.com/download/ is awesome and works with xp, vista etc. If this isolates your issue to being your bf install then I would try to reinstall this and see what happens. I also know that on one occasion I didn't do anything but turn my lappy off then turn it back on and got an error like this. It never happened again. I also would try to make sure that all of your drivers are updated and if you have some other game then try to install that to help isolate the issue.
-
My apologies, I meant to do the first part in safe mode. mattireland It used to be the iLand..
Oh yeh - I've had this error quite alot. If you select start windows with last known config it usually works and if not use the windows recovery disk.
-
I wish it would pause and actually let me see the blue error screen. It says up for like a millisecond. -
Are you using Vista or XP?
-
XP Home..I actually didn't see your second post so I didn't delete the files in Safe Mode. I found a similar thread on this (though i can't read my blue screen of death because it goes too quickly) Search "Blue Screen of Death...again"
This guy's problem sounds just like mine..I seem to be able to boot XP normally IF I boot into safe mode first, shut down, and then try. Evidently his solution was video card drivers, but I don't see how that would be possible in my case seeing as how I just got the thing 3 days ago.
And of course since I disabled system restore I can't just take the easy route and do that..DOH! -
One last try. Go to Clevo's website or to Nvidia's and download the latest drivers and save to desktop. Then restart and boot into safe mode, go to control panel, add-remove programs and remove anything having to do with nvidia. Go to My Computer and on your HDD see if you have an Nvidia or Cabs folder with any Nvidia related files inside on the C level, if so then delete. Make sure that you also deleted those BF1942 files as well. Use the cc cleaner and clean out any registry issues you had come up. When you restart you should come up to standard XP logon screen, if the Nvidia drivers were the case, and your video should be standard vga for windows XP. I run Vista but if I remember correctly XP will search for drivers automatically which you don't want to happen so you may disconnect your internet before rebooting into standard mode. Once you are there try to install the video card driver package that is on your desktop and restart and you could be fine. If so then try another game if you have one before 1942 and see if that works.
Alternatively as a last resort (or first depending on your frustration level right now) you can do a fresh format with clean xp install. It may be that when the OS and drivers were loaded by Clevo before shipping that they made a mistake, not likely, but possible.
I don't use system restore either as it's never been able to restore anything other than my frustration right before I reformat. =) -
My desktop recently have this problem as well. It works out suddenly after 2 weeks of errors. And now its back to normal performance without me doing anything. Weird.
-
One other things, all things are possible with computers. You don't even have to do anything and it just decides that it doesn't want to play today. My new lappy didn't last 2 days on my desk before I did a clean Vista install without the bloat and have been happy ever since.
-
OldMan, I've experienced this with my desktop pc and it was related, in my case, to drivers. It helps to see the error, which can be done as follows:
1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System
2. Go to Advanced
3. Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings...
4. Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"
You'll probably have to do this in Safe Mode at first, then reboot and note the details on the BSOD. Alternatively, you can offload anything precious and reformat; sometimes, that's the fastest solution.
Good luck with it.
P.S.: For general Windows questions, fixes and tips, I highly recommend annoyances.org and their series of books, such as "Windows Annoyances." -
I will try the drivers refresh/update as a last resort, but here's an interesting update:
I did a thread search and found yet another case of a similar problem. This guy recommended to a bunch of people to turn off the system, unplug the power source and let it sit for a few, replug and reboot. Strangely enough, it seemed to work! I'm going to reboot a few more times to ensure that it isn't just a fluke, though.
Weird part is that when I was having all the troubles it was running on battery power, batteries got low, I plugged AC in and problems persisted. The only thing I can figure (though I can't remember if this is what I actually did or not) is I think last night I unplugged the AC while it was either in the middle of booting down or while it was turned off. I don't know why that would mess with anything, but we'll see! -
If the computer did not fully shutdown and had a power loss during shutdown that could be the problem. If there was at least enough battery left to get a full shutdown then shouldn't be the case. Post your results when you get a chance.

We'll see, going to piddle with it right now, brb. -
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Technical Information:
Stop: Ox0000000A (0xF000269F, 0x0000001C, 0x00000000, 0x805029E0)
That any help to anyone?
What could have caused this to happen overnight? Battlefield 1942 is an old game, sure, but I uninstalled it and all that. Darn computers. Sigh. -
This is the only thing I can offer before reformatting. Its the troubleshooting for your stop error.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314063&sd=RMVP -
I found that as a link on this page. http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm If none of this works then I would just reformat and start from scratch.
-
great.... sounds like you installed an incompatible software that is impeding the startup.
Press F8 (while notebook is turning on) to go to SAFE MODE
uninstall any software that might have caused this... usually AVG [from past experiences].
Use Avast! Anti-Virus instead, its free and works fine with this notebook. -
Gophn beat me
uninstall AVG anti virus
use Avast or NOD32 (they're solid programs and don't use a lot of resources) -
It was AVG in your experiences, rickster?? -
this problem with AVG has come up before for the M570U, there are some incompatibilities that cause the BSODs.
-
Other than vague "it's probably your drivers" responses, no one seemed to have an answer.
Will keep you posted -
Well you guys weren't kidding! I'm 3 for 3 in boot attempts since AVG uninstallation.
Gophn, you're the man as usual!
Just out of curiosity, why do you think it took the 48 hours or so to start effing things up? I don't care, just so long as I have my baby back!
I tried to +rep..but I gotta wait it seems. -
Glad its working again.
I am not entirely sure why it took 48 hours to cause the BSODs, it usually starts happening immediately.
In any case, use AVAST instead. -
Check if that game installed some stupid copyprotection files into the system that are going bogus on you.. Just a idea since that last thing you did was installed a game.. just throwing thought out there.
-
oh nevermind.. AVG eh.. didn't read all the way though..
-
hypothesis: since AVG updates itself regularly while connected to the Internet, perhaps whatever causes this issue was included in an update several days after the initial install.
-
-
Im having the same problem as yours
alright, i will try uninstalling AVG -
Mmmm that's weird. AVG is definitely NOT doing this alone. Maybe there's some sort of incompatibilities with another software / game. I've had my lappy for a year (AVG is the 1st thing I installed), and AVG never caused me these problems and only god knows how much sh*t I have on my laptop (2 sets of Oracle Tools, all productivity tools, games, even things I don't usually touch are in (like stardock software).
I WILL remember this though.
-
Boot into safe mode, and right click on My Computer, select properties, then advanced, then startup and recovery, then settings, then uncheck the box for automatically restart on system failure. This should let you see the Bluescreen..
I'd be suspect that it's something to do with DirectX, do you know if (I think you have the option) BF1942 installed directX? What you might want to do is download the current DirectX installer from Microsoft an give re-installation a try.
The other option is... have you tried a system restore while in safemode? Pick a restore point maybe.. the 1st day and give it a shot?
Edit: Just re-read the thread and realised you solved it. Yay for AVG auto-updates. If you want my pick, don't install an antivirus, just run the free online one at Bitdefender once a month, and any other time you are suspicious.. Then get yourself a nice malware/spyware application like ad-aware and run in manually about once a month. -
Anywho, hey did you get my PM about the Zalman? Really eager to hear back from you on that man. -
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL are almost always driver related (yes, yes, I know, bad memory can cause it, just as hardware compatibility issues), but I encounter this error quite frequently and it is most often driver related.
While most people associate drivers with hardware, in order to do its job AVG loads four system level drivers :
AvgArCln.sys
avg7core.sys
avg7rsw.sys
avg7rsxp.sys
Perhaps not all of them come into play in all systems (like, if you use webmail exclusively). Just speculation, of course...I do not have that model to test. -
-
Hey, something strange has happened to me this week.
As I got a new test laptop this week at work I tried setting up a BT PAN for surfing the web from lappy #2 (my m570u acting as the PAN server).
Then I started to BSOD every 5 minutes or so. The thing is working wonderfully and is easy to setup, but very unstable.
Could this be the missing puzzle piece? Do you have the PAN BT profile enabled?
I'll try uninstalling AVG to see if my BT PAN is more stable. -
AVG seems to have incompatibilities with this particular notebook.
Go to Safe Mode and uninstall it.
Use AVAST instead. -
Yah like I said, I mean it's fine to speculate that the problem may be something other than AVG, but the results speak volumes. After uninstalling AVG I have had ZERO BSoD's and that was nearly a week ago now.
Cheers
