I threw this post in the Graphics card section but didn't get any answers so I can try the manufacturers forum.

I am playing League of Legends and I get major FPS drops when I play in borderless windowed/fullscreen mode. Around 25-35fps. My laptop is more than capable of handling it. I have looked everywhere for an answer for a solution with no luck. Normal fullscreen runs the game around 120+ FPS

I am using a Sager P170EM, quad-core 3610QM, 12GB of ram and the 7970m. Switchable graphics as you guys probably already know.

So my thoughts were that because it is no longer in fullscreen mode the system resources are no longer dedicated to the game and starts distributing it around giving less to the game itself thus reducing performance.
I also noticed the GPU utilization dropping to around 47% average from about 56-60%. But again, LoL isn't very resource heavy on the GPU anyways. So maybe there are other factors I am unaware of.

Any ideas or answers would be greatly appreciated! I'm stumped. Maybe just need to wait for a better driver?

Same thing happens to just about every game I know of. Don't know why but it's been there for as long as I remember so I doubt it's a driver issue. More than likely something hardcoded in Windows that causes this.

I think its got to do with your AMD Video Card or Drivers or Both.

I don't experience any problems with my laptop, specs below, using nvidia and playing Dota 2 in borderless window mode.

I get about the same in full screen and borderless, usually fluctuates around 140-170fps. Could be the resources getting dedicated elsewhere? try see the settings in CCC, nvidia works fine for me.

Disable Aero and use a classic windows background. It should improve performance for when you run in borderless window mode.

I am running Windows 8 so I can't disable Aero completely. Which seems to be the easy answer, if possible. lol Yeah I don't know, but it bugs me.

Only the Aero glass theme and branding, as well as the Flip 3D is gone. It sounds as though resources are being reallocated to the CPU, LoL is more GPU dependent.

I've read that the game is poorly optimized, so outside of optimizing your settings for high performance, you may need to make some sort of adjustment to LoL or wait for a patch.

Or why not transition to HoN or Dota 2! you're wasting your good VC in LoL :D
