Right, so I've noticed you can get an 8GB HyperX So-Dimm memory (KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX) for around 70 pounds. Pretty good if you ask me.

I was thinking of upgrading but the problem is that they only have the Intel XMP model. So if I put them in my laptop they will run only at stock latencies not at the 6-6-6-16 ones that I want.

Is their any way to get them to run at lower timings? A program or something along those lines? As far as I know my BIOS doesn't support changing memory timings.

    MemSet could be a solution.

I've used Thaiphoon Burner for changing the SPD settings.

I see, so it shouldn't be a problem to change the SPD settings using such programs. Thanx I will look into buying these memories then :D.

Memset doesn't cahnge he SPD afaik, it just alters current latences form inside Windows (if it supports the chipset). Althoug I dont know why would you even bother, you won't feel it.

This is completely irrelevant at this point. The question is how can I get them to work at the lower JDEC 6-6-6-16 or 5-5-5-15 .

Ok, I finally managed to get my 8GB kit.
Yesterday I also figured out how I can get the kit to work at lower timings without the use the XMP. The only problem is that I need Thaiphoon Burner (version 7.2 or newer) to edit the settings.

If anyone has such a version maybe they can help me out, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

I have Thaiphoon 7.3.3 and could alter the SPD table for you, but how would you burn the .thp files back without having Thaipoon...the serial key is motherboard bound & SPDTool does not "officially" support DDR3...

It's true that SPDTool doesn't officially support DDR3, but I have dumped the memory bios with it and it has been dumped correctly, I've check with Taiphoon and it also looks good and everything reads well. I've also attempted to flash a modified memory BIOS and SPDTool correctly identified that the checksum is incorrect. However, SPDTool does not read the dump correctly and thus it is impossible to edit it using the tool.

My impression is that I can use SPD Tool to dump and flash the memories, but I can't edit with it. I need Thaiphoon to edit them. If you are willing to help, maybe you can edit the SPD for me and I will flash it using SPD Tool.

I would be very happy if you could help me! Thanx.

Hmmm, you guys want to flash new bios on memory modules? Сaught! :)
Don't forget to write about success (I hope).
In this case it is possible to use this HyperX with 7-7-7 timings on 1333 I suppose.

But last time I was bored finished with bricked 1 year old laptop because of modded BIOS update. Good that memory module is like 20 times cheaper.

Thanx to Prema I've managed to get my 8GB kit to work at CL6 6-6-6-16. CL5 didn't work as it won't pass POST.

Prema has my gratitude and I plan on writing a small post on how you can get better timings for XMP enabled memories without a XMP enabled BIOS. Hopefully I will have time to do it as well.

Congrats! So I assume you really used SPD Tool to dump and flash the memories and Prema used Thaiphoon to edit them, correct?
In this case I can buy same HyperX and flash it to work on 7-7-7-20 on 1333Mhz, am I right?

For this should I buy Blue HyperX or Grey? Or there is no difference? Just in case you know is there any difference in them except one uses XMP and another is PlugNPlay? Thank you.

    Yes, that's what we did.

You would be better off buying the blue ones that work plug and play - those are the ones without the X at the end. This way you won't need any flashing either as they will automatically work at 7-7-7-20 at 1333 MHz.

Where i am right now I couldn't find 8GB non-XMP enabled memories, that's why I bought XMP enabled and had to hard flash them.

Oh, you want the 8 GB Kit?

Then you have to do like I did. You will have to buy the XMP memories and hard mod the BIOS.

1333MHz HyperX memories work at 7-7-7-20 when at 1333MHz and at 6-6-6-16 at 1066MHz.
1066MHz HyperX memories work at 5-5-5-15, but are known to cause problems. I had a 4 GB kit that I had to return and was refunded as the supplier no longer stocked them due to the large number of RMAs on them.

HI guys. I wish to know if all steps are the same if I want to change timings of another RAM? Like Crucial 1333 CL9 for example? I want to make it work on CL8.

No, it's more complicated if it doesn't have an XMP profile. But you can look-up a HyperX Profile and try to adjust it to your memory.

Just make sure you have a spare set of memories around so you can recover in case of a bad flash.
