Hi, I'm in the researching phase of buying a laptop sometime in June, and the Sager NP5793 caught my eye because of the 8800GTX. I just had a few questions.
1) How is the build quality, screen flex, things like that?
2) How does the 8800GTX perform with official drivers?
3) How is Xotic PC's service.
Thanks in advance.
-
-
1. top notch
2. top notch
3. top notch
and i'm serious. ask anybody. well, almost anybody. -
read chaz's review
-
But I take my 579x with me in a lot of places and it serves me well.
2)it`s the best mobile card on the planet,it performs accordingly
3)among the best you`ll see. It`s nice to deal with real people speaking English and not Indians or Mexicans,no offence intended. -
Build quality is good, but it isn't as tough as my old Dell Vostro.
-
And the Dell Vostro isn't as tough as a ToughBook !
Rinse, repeat...
All in all, the 5793 is a great balanced laptop!
-
1. A (if not for fan noise, I'd give it an A+)
2. A+
3. A+ -
Yea, the fan noise is still something to consider.
I would recommend the 9262 for the ultimate power. -
The 9262 is one heavy brick! I've always wondered why Clevo doesn't come up with something between the M570RU series and the D901C. I would sacrifice an extra hard drive in the D901C for portability and a thinner, lighter design. 2 HD's are plenty, IMO.
-
Thanks for the replies.
I have just two more questions.
I've heard about some problems with the 8800GTX underclocking permanently? Am I just misunderstanding this, or is this a problem?
Would this computer function fine in an environment where I would leave it on my desk most of the time, but occasionally take it around to a library, outside, etc, to work? (I'm going off to college)
Thanks a bunch for all your answers. -
Thats been fixed long back, its a prob mainly with the m15x
-
5793 doesn't has downclocking issue. for your second question, isn't that what laptops designed for?
-
And, touche. -
-
Yes, it's MUCH better with the latest fan firmware, apparently.
-
i suppose i can just eturn it if i get really picky about it. thanks for all your help Prasad. You made me not buy an m15x! thank you
-
-
or hes just deff and doesnt actually know as he cannot tell the difference in a mute world
-
for the record, early 5793's COULD have the downclocking issue, but it has been fixed in the latest sets of nvidia drivers. I know this because I HAVE this issue
-
Damn that loud beep
-
Mine still DC, but im also still with the .07 bios, tho I hope to hear from my reseller in a day or two, getting the .08 bios, which fixes this problem (atleast for most ppl
)
But if your out getting a new M570RU/NP5793 it should NOT experience these issuses. Not with the newest drivers as I understandThe new ones comes with the .08 (or newer, ive read about one in here that had a .09 version??) bios
-
why wait? .08 is available and easy to update, lmk if you have any questions
-
As I need it from my reseller, if I dont want to void the warrant :S
Thats atleast what the supportguy I talked to said -
then use winphlash to backup your stock one and flash back if you ever need to..
but see if you can get it from them. ill bet it will be the reg clevo one. what does your system say when you boot up?? is it branded or does it say style note? if it says style note there is 0 difference as that is the clevo standard bios.. -
it does say style note, so its an unbranded version
-
yep.. they will have no idea if you flash with theirs or not..
-
here you go.... flash with dos via a bootdisc or usb stick
http://rapidshare.com/files/114849739/57RU_108.zip -
hehe okay, so just use the one from clevo thats linked in another thread here on the forums ?? Named 57RU_108.zip containing 3 files ?
-
@Zfactor:
Actually, they'll know because they would require their technicians to keep a record whenever a BIOS is sent out. I would suggest going ahead and continuing to ask your reseller for the BIOS, too, so that there is a record that they sent it to you. Otherwise, you'll have to make sure you downgrade to 1.07 if you ever send the notebook in for RMA repair, and if you happen to not be thinking about that, they might refuse to cover the repairs, based on what your support tech told you. -
Ask your reseller, I know stories in which changing the BIOS version caused a voiding of the warranty(granted , it was a BIOS with a different version ie, newer than the one the original reseller offered
) ...
Pick up the phone and double check, a small thing like this can really do some damage -
/agreeing with Eleron:
Even if a BIOS is guaranteed to fix a problem you're having, it's always best to get the reseller's permission before flashing it. An improperly flashed BIOS will not be repaired by most OEMs under warranty, even if they sent you the BIOS. If your reseller has a policy against flashing the BIOS unless they say so, be safe. -
Well, I talked with the supportguy and said, that I was able to get the BIOS elsewhere, as he had a hard time getting his hands on it him self. And if I were able to get it my self, it was fine
-
see page 3 i posted it for you..
and that was also why i stated you would have to flash back if they required that in the last page.. imo some companies post the bios right on their web site so not all companies would know you flashed it and when -
Update: It seems that im unable to get a BIOS update through my reseller, unless ill send it in on repair, which they claims will cost ~100 USD (500 DKr)... Well, if it ends up with me having to send it in for update, I can assure them that they wount get a single cent from me, as I see that as a warranty repair (heck the comp dosent work as attented without this update IMO)...
Funny thing tho, as I know no other than Clevo, that has their bios updates hidden from the public, in extreme cases you will have to contact your reseller to get a link. But send it in for BIOS-update, screw me, this will be the last Clevo owned by me, if this is the support one will get. -
That's not a clevo thing, that's just your reseller (who is that by the way?).
The BIOSes are available from various places online including the clevo website, see various places in this forum for the link.
All BIOSes for the M570RU/Sager NP5793 will work on any system based on the 570RU, so you do not 'need' to get it from your reseller. -
Well, I bought it through a danish firm called Datadiscount, which sold it to me, through a company called X-One. The firm running support on the thing, which actually wants to help, but is kinda unable to, as they cannot get their hands in a biosfile, because of the reseller (X-One). The supportfirm, called Inter-Data, stated that id had to be updated at the reseller, which they were told by X-One (reseller). So the firm running support, is unable to do anything atm, as the reseller wount hand out the biosupdate link, even to the supportfirm. They wount even send the bios-file to Inter-Data so they can send it through to me. And as that is, I guess that by flashing my self, ill lose warranty, if they are so strict about handing out bioses.
If I go to Clevo/Sager/Eurocom's hps, im unable to find any sort of biosupdate (unless using links provided here on NBR)
-
as i said the link i provided for you is the most current bios for your system. i can even provide it for you with a custom boot screen if you want and provide me with a logo or pic.. if you use winphlash which i can also provide for you you can backup your bios burn it or store it somewhere safe then return to it if needed. if your bios says style note imo i would not (again if it was me) be the least bit worried because they are using a standard clevo bios which is also what i provided for you. ill bet if you ended up sending it in with the one i provided (as long as no custom boot screen lol) they would most likely not even notice the change..
-
The general policy with Sager is that they will release a BIOS update on a case-by-case basis, and only if they speak to the customer first. This is why you can't find Sager's BIOS updates on the Sager website. Because an improperly flashed BIOS can brick a computer (and because the warranty does not cover a computer bricked in this manner), Sager prefers to only release their BIOS files to their customers, and only after confirming someone really needs it.
Technically, Clevo has this policy, too, but clever NBR users have found the secret stash on Clevo's website.
In your case, I agree that you need it because of the downclocking video card. Do you have any way to contact X-One directly to appeal what you've been told? Perhaps if you explain directly to them that you're experiencing a known issue that is fixed by the latest BIOS, they might be willing to release the BIOS update to you, or at least give you permission to use a BIOS file from Clevo's FTP server. -
Wasn`t there a case here on NBR where somebody could use a Sager BIOS since his reseller did not even have the latest one?
Since all RUs use the same type of BIOS, unless you are under strict no-no`s to update it,which would be BS seing as the downclocking issue is a big fashion ouch, you should be able to follow Zfactor`s guide on that one. -
and even if they are strict as i said make a backup and then flash back if you end up having to.. takes about 2 min's literally to do..
-
this is way I love IBM, they always included a drivers updater on thinkpad, with the latest BIOS; unlike other brands, customers have to install drivers one by one.
-
HP does that too, I always received email about updates
-
Guess ill just have to make a backup of the current and update my self
Just need the winplash and a guide to backup, if it isn't straight forward
Im just being carefull when messing around with bioses, as ive fried a MB before doing so(Power got cut to the PC, a fuse said *SLAM*)
-
pm me if you need winphlash and ill tell you what to do. i promise you will not brick your notebook...just follow my instructions
-
Already done
-
@ zfactor
Would you kindly upload the firmware 1.00.07sf to rapidshare.com, because megaupload is inaccessible from Turkey. Thanks in advance.
PS: Other users may upload too. -
