In the next month I am planning on ordering one of these. I've been looking at both owner's threads on them and it seems the 8690 has more issues than the 8760. Is it safe to say the build quality on the 8760 is generally better?

i would say build quality is the same for both but there are a lot more 8690 users than 8760. so with more people there will be more complaints.

I can't speak for the 8690, but my8760 has great build quality as far as I can tell. Everything feels sturdy and works well. No complaints here.

Mine is very good as to quality of build, performance, etc. My 17.3 LED is absolutely beautiful playing games, videos and movies...

All those reasons, and image editing, is why I ordered one myself. Don't forget that the 8760 has two drive bays -you can always use and SSD for the root drive and a 640 GB second drive for all your pron -uh, I mean multimedia contentLast edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -
I have both. I slightly prefer the build of the W870CU. It's the little things, like the location of the power button, for example. I'm not a huge fan of them being on the hinge, like the W860CU.

And leave the notebook closed while it's operating I'm assuming? If you value the life of your notebook screen, do not leave your display lid closed when the notebook is operating. Nevertheless, the W860CU cannot turn on if the display lid is down, so you will still need to open the lid so that the power button will execute.

I'm going to have to rethink my desktop arangement then. Thanks for the warning. I didn't think about heat damaging the LCD. -

Think I will go with the 8760!
