I have a Clevo m570u and I have tried installing the drivers that the laptop came with, downloading the newer drivers but I still cant get the built in mic to work. I have tried plugging in an external mic but that doesnt work either. The software drivers that came with it were realtek HD Audio Manager.
    I have windows xp MCE

    Thanks in advance

I run this laptop on professional.

Double click on the little picture of the loudspeaker in the task bar, ensure that Rear Pink In is not muted. Often it is by default. As for the external, check that it didn't need phantom power and that Rear Blue in was not muted. Then click the REP icon under my name and ensure the bullet point is set to positive before clicking give. Thanks.

    hm...

    Open your Realtek Sound Manager,
    check the Speaker Configuration

    - there should be a section with the ports, in which you can change its purpose (by clicking on the port in question).

well if you plug in the external mic, try using the Line In port (the jack in the back next to the USB ports)

To get the my mic to work I had to use Mic Boost in the XP Volume panel.. in vista you can actually control how much boost.. had to get it to work for the web cam and voice dittation... if you don't use mic boost you will not be able to hear anything at all in the voice recording unless your nearly shouting at the bottom right corner of the laptop.. easiest way to check if it was working was to bring up the MSN messenger voice/webcam setup.. it will show a input bar mesuring the volume of the input from the mic.. with that up you can play with your setting in the realtek panel and volume panel before it work..

BTW.. the MIC boost is hidden in the realtek panel by clicking the "wrench".. and its not on the Recording panel.. in the Volume control panel (the one that sits on the tray) be sure to check to show Advance options.. and on that screen is the option to check a box under line in to boost volume... (my config might of been diffrent..)

I been talking with realtek.. the Loudness option will be brought over to the vista panel.. like on XP.. the volume on Vista is maxed on a lot of my content on vista because I used to boot the Volume by 10db in XP..
