I read here on the forum that you can upgrade the video card in the Clevo M570TU to 280M.
Does anyone know where I can buy one in EU?
Thanx

Ask one of the vendors in Europe.
-
Welcome to the NBR forums.
in the UK, contact www.kobaltcomputers.co.uk
in Europe:
... more in the Clevo Guide -
-
Ok, thank you. -
those are all Clevo vendors, they should be able to special order any of the parts (such as the videocard) for you
-
It´s possible to buy one from germany, but they ask for too much......
-
When buying a NP5797 motherboard, I contacted many clevo resellers incl. the ones Gophn listed. All of them had extremely bad communication, and many of them seemed to not know what they were talking about. Kobalt was the only one that had great service and also very good prices.

Off topic: Hows the transformation coming along, Cookie?

Ok, thank you very much. I will make them top of my list. -
Really DO NOT buy from europe!
I too am unfortunate to live here and the prices for any component that contains a chip is outrageous.
I'm planing to get a clevo M680ETU and configuring in european shops was a nightmare.
My cfg price always came out around 2000. But what european seellers seem to miss is that 2000€ ≠ 2000$... this is a ripoff. Even the shipping costs sometimes hapened to bigger from eu to eu than from us to eu.
Rj tech seem to have it, but it's in us and not exactly cheap.
Please tell us your findings. -
Ah, you just have to look around. I managed to get this M860TU for under £1,000 in fact it was nearly under £900. Novatech were also selling their last stock of M860TU's (with GT's) for under £700 a few weeks back. They're all out now but it happens. But that goes to show that we can compete with US prices at times.
Your best bet is to contact one of the reps at Kobalt. They said they will sell the 280M/260M seperately but at a high price for now (talking £300+) and apparently there are plenty in stock! -
It's stuck with the customs. I've sent them the payment for taxes and everything, so hopefully I'll get it next week some time.
-
as Oiad said^^
Kobalt will be selling stand alone 260 & 280 cards but this will be after all the back orders of laptops have been built. -
So as I understand, for now only Kobalt is selling the 280M stand alone. I will also look at RJ Tech (490 USD ~ 350 euro ~ 300 GBP) but to their price I have to add transport, VAT, custom duties and could end up more expensive than buying from EU.
-
Correct and correct.
I know your quite cossy with the Kobalt team MrDJ, maybe you'll know - will they actually be selling the componants seperately on their website or will you have to contact them personally to make an order? -
not saying that all the back orders have not been met yet but anyone ordering a new laptop will get priority.
i know they were saying the 260 will be on their website as a stand alone order so i guess the 280 will be as well.
the 280 cards may take longer as the priority is for the new m980nu which will be coming soon. -
Don't know about you but I'm not quite feeling brave enough to put a 280M in, especially as H-Emmanuel's thread suggested the need to practically rip of the metal panel on the card... Unless Kobalt decide to sell their cards fully-prepped of course.
-
What exactly are you talking about oiad?

He's talking about the GTX 280M that H-Emmanuel put in his M860TU.

We have to prioritise new builds over selling individual cards as we would either have to take the cards out of chassis or hold more spare stock than we need. When we first started shipping 260M and 280M a couple of weeks ago supply was very limited but it is now at a good level.
Barebones and components won't be offered as products on our website but we get quite a lot of enquiries so the right people know where to ask. Something we need to be careful of is not damaging our system sales or taking resources away from them and diverting it to component sales. -
He's talking about this thread:

Just look at the pictures and you will get it.
It seems that the 280 doesn't come with the heatsink assembly backplate.
That backplate although it should belong to the heatsink, adheres quite well to the video card and it's hard to remove.
An I've looked at a ton of services and haven't found it or the heatsink available.
Another thing. Just look at the two cards!
Somone should deffinitley try to write a 280 bios on the 260m.
It might be needed to blind re-flash it back but I think it might work... -
Ok, thank you all. The backplate problem doesn't bother me I will deal with it properly.
Neil: Thank you very much for your answer. -
Niel, I'm also interested in the 280. Does it come with the backplate

or can the backplate be acquired on request?
Thanks -
I need it for my M570ETU.

Hi guys,
I've tried contacting Kobalt but they haven't replied to me. Do they usually take very long to reply their costumers ?
Do you know any other European company selling 280M cards ?
Thanx -
