Buy P150HM now or wait for promotions?

I pretty much convinced myself to buy a new laptop and have my mind set on the P150HM and am struggling with whether or not to make the purchase now or wait for a promotion in the coming months (black friday/cyber monday, haha, I know it's a ways off but I'm patient... :D ).

Does anyone know if the major players (Mythlogic, Avadirect, XoticPC, Malibal, etc.) typically offer good promotions for the holidays? Do these promotions typically apply to online orders for customized laptops or for specific builds or only in-store discounts? Does anyone know of any new barebones/components coming out Q4 2011 that may lower the price of existing barebones/components?

I know my thoughts are all over the place but thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

We typically offer specials during the holidays, but that is about 4-5 months away. Do you have a budget you are trying to stay within and/or a list of desired specs? We have some current specials that might help out. :)

    Hi :)

I am also in a similar situation, but will be buying mine in August. I cannot answer about future promotions, but as far as I know, the only new component that may exist later on in Q4 2011 is the nVIDIA GTX590M... but even that is just rumour. So, probably no new components coming out in Q4. (Ivy Bridge is next year, right?)

I don't think laptop prices drop that much like how desktop is. I too am waiting till after 6990m gets to masses before I order my. Want to see how the 6990m performs and what, if any problems people have with it.

I went around to different re-sellers last night pricing out a laptop and they're all pretty much the same with the exception of Mythlogic. Their prices on component upgrades are way different than other re-sellers, but their base price is also much higher. I would love to get my from Mythlogic as I can go pick it up, but their prices are way too high compare to others for the specs I need.

Right now, it should be back to school sales, but I don't see much of a sale/promotions from any of the re-sellers. So I don't expect there will be much of a price difference between now and the holidays. When there are new refresh models come out, they just phase out the current ones.

Malibal, could you please tell me about the free shipping and RAM promotion? I'm interested in buying a PH150HM: 95% gamut glassview, intel 2720, AMD 6990. Also, I live in Canada, would I be eligible for free shipping?

Oh and I read that the 6990 price for Malibal have dropped, so if I order before it is shipped out mid-August, and the price drops, would I be eligible for a refund?

    Thanks!

Hi, simply drop us a PM and I will give you the discounts codes for the RAM and Shipping Deals. Also, we now offer warranty service in Canada and FREE shipping both ways, so you can have the same level of warranty service and support as our US customers.

Lastly, if you order now and the price drops before your notebook ships - then yes, we will refund the difference to you - so that you get the new lower price. :)

Great to see that you guys are taking more care of the Canadian customers now. There will be more and more Canadians shopping down south due to the much lower prices and high dollar. I always hate seeing the big price gap between US and Canada for the exact same item.

Looks like my choice of seller for my laptop has become much easier now. Still waiting for people to get their hands of the 6990 before I pull the trigger.

But now until 9/18/11 we are also including a FREE (Thats not a Free upgrade, but FREE) KillerN-1102 Wireless card (Upgrade to the 1103 for $15), a FREE (Same definition of free above) USB Bluetooth Adapter (So you still get bluetooth with the KillerN's), AND a FREE Slappa Ballistix PTAC Matrix Sleeve with Strap. So thats more than $100 worth of free stuff (We all love free stuff right?) :)

Thank you all for your input and the valuable information.

    My budget is around $2000.

I am looking for a p150hm with 95% gamut matte, intel 2720, amd 6990m, corsair performance 3 128GB ssd, 16GB 1600 ram, and the remaining components can be stock.

BTW, does anyone know if the clevo BIOS issues with the sandforce ssd controllers have been resolved yet?

    Thanks!

wish i'd looked at mythlogic last week :<

cheaper than gentech, screen pre-calibrated, free slappa, free network card, not to mention the Processor Upgrade seems very cheap (although starting price on the notebooks does seem higher than other sellers)

We are offering Patriot Wildfire Drives in our laptops as we worked directly with them to fix the issues with the Drives and the Clevo shells as it was a firmware issue in the drive itself, it could also have been worked around in the Clevo BIOS, but this was much easier to get done =P

The fix is only for the wildfires and has been rolled up to sandforce, but we don't have any idea if it will be rolled out to the general firmware for inclusion by OCZ etc.

dam myth i should have waited got my laptop for college. but they are a great company, if u are interested. I might get some flak for saying this but if you are looking for great deals around cyber monday then cyberpowerpc.com is a good choice as they always offer free games and great discounts for holidays. also their sales reps are extremely nice, but the tech support is outsourced.

Of course their sales's rep are extremely nice. ANY company that has sale's reps that aren't nice need to fire them. A sales rep is to advertise and make the product seem appetizing. After purchase Tech support is what separates one company from the next.

Now I am really torn, buy it now? Or wait until the holiday sales? Ugh...

My current Nox A14 runs fine but apparently Zepto is out of business...

I have to ponder this some more...

My rule of thumb with tech is to set your budget and get the biggest bang you can now. Prices will always come down. Sitting and waiting is less time enjoying the tech!

Are the 4 months of waiting for a holiday sale that will get you $100 off, a free game, or backpack worth not having the fastest tech in your hands now?

The 6990 is nearly out. That was enough of a "sale" for me over the 485 or 580. If only Mythlogic weren't $300 more than the machine I'm looking at.

    +1

I think the 6990 is worth the wait though. I too would like to get my 8150 from Mythlogic cause they're closer to me and can pick it up, but cost a lot for the machine I spec'd out which is just base with 6990 and matte screen. They are priced good if you go all out and upgrade everything.

Mythlogic just started a back to school sale! And to put it simple, my laptop config has dropped 200 from when I ordered it in the beginning of June.

I just tried to price out the system again at Mythlogic, I could be wrong, but seems like their base price went up a bit. Either way I just needed the very basic P150HM + matte screen + 6990, so Mythlogic's systems just isn't for me. If it were close to other re-sellers price even if it's a bit higher then I will get it from Mythlogic cause I can probably avoid the shipping and brokerage and tax by having a friend pick it up and bringing it over to me(Canadian), but price gap is large.

All valid arguments...those freebies are nice though! What are typical holiday sales like though? Are we talking about 10 to 20 percent off or just additional freebies? Anyone bought a laptop during last year's holidays?

    QZone,

When I got mine, Mythlogic's quote was actually pretty competitive and they gave it to me with all of my software installed already with my own keys. Worked out pretty well and they let you customize more. They'll also install components you mail them into the system but they won't warranty those. I think for my config it was around $50 more from them or something like that.

My ideal config from them is $300-$400 more than competitor, so obviously it all depends on the system.

I'm sure their service is incredible, no doubt about that. I'm just trying to save anywhere I can and Mythlogic's base system includes things I just don't absolutely need, I mean it's good to have, but it also adds cost to it which is why their base price is much higher. I'm Trying to built a decent gaming system for lowest I can get it for, which Malibal is priced much better (cheaper by about $300 for my specs). If I was to upgrade a lot of the things to be same like 2720, 1600MHZ RAM, IC7, etc. then the price will be about same compare to others, but it's not the system I need.

Alright, so I've finally decided to go ahead and make the purchase through Mythlogic.

Mythlogic, what is the best way to order the laptop? PM you to get a quote? Order it online? Or call in? I would like to take advantage of the cash discount as well.

    In addition:

    - Do you have windows 7 enterprise software? I have the license key.
    - Can the laptop be built without any logos on the chassis?
    - Can the laptop be built without any other software besides the OS and drivers?

    Thanks much in advance.

Easiest is to order it online, if you pick a method of payment that is good for the 3% off you will get it automatically when you choose that payment method.

If you want it with windows 7 enterprise, we can do that, but due to enterprise being enterprise you will have to activate it manually when you get the machine.

No logo sure, just email us @ [email protected] after your order to let us know no logo, install with enterprise etc.

We don't install anything other than the OS + Drivers normally, the only other thing we may install is Optical software, but if you put that in your note to us too we would be happy to not install that.

It has been a few days since I received my new/repaired laptop (P150HM) from Mythlogic and wanted to share my experience with anyone who may be in the market to purchase one.

I pre-ordered the laptop on 8/6/11 and it took a little longer than I would have liked to receive the laptop, but understandably, the 6990m were on pre-order. Once Mythlogic received my shell, they were able to turn it over and get it to my door in about a week. Kudos to them!

I was giggling like a kid at a candy shop when my laptop arrived that day. I even worked from home just to make sure UPS didn't jerk me around and try to stick a note on my door without even knocking, but that is a whole different story...

Much to my dismay, the laptop had all sorts of issues. The power wouldn't turn on sometimes, the power goes on but then the power goes off by itself sometimes, other times it would just blue screen with various stop codes. I worked with Mythlogic to do some basic troubleshooting and I must say that they were diligent. Responding with me into the wee hours of the night/morning. Finally it came to the point I had to ship it back to them so they could take a much closer look at it.

Once they received the laptop back, they were able to discover the problem promptly (some bad memory sticks) and were able to install new ones, test and had it back to me in a week. During the whole time, there was constant communication and they even satisfied my paranoia by running some specific tests I had requested.

After I received the laptop back, it has been nothing but fantastic. The laptop exceeded all my expectations at this point in time and I must give a salute to the Mythlogic guys for working so hard to make sure everything went smoothly despite the hardware issues. You have a very happy customer!
