Hi everyone! My first thread in this forum :D

I plan to buy a gaming laptop and the P150hm seems to be the right choice given its price and spec.

However, it is March now, which means the ivy bridge processors may be just around the corner

So should I wait for the new Clevo line? I don't want to buy the P150hm now and then just after a month the P150em comes out :(

    Any advice?

    Thx!

Your call ( obviously :D). The EM will bring some new stuff to the table other than IB. It should include Invidia Optimus, and a backlit keyboard. Weather or not optimus is a plus is very debatable, and depends on who you ask. You are also looking at new GPU's, so if you're craving the newest GPU then you're going to want to wait. That said, the current GPU's a quite powerful and shouldn't disappoint. Also, IB has no official launch date, speculation says that with the current delays it'll probably launch in June.

It comes down to how long you're willing to wait for some extra proformance. If you can wait, then I would say that it's worth it, but you may be waiting until early Mayish to get your laptop.

I would definitely wait for the P150EM. A backlit keyboard has been long overdue, and the power savings/battery life increase of Ivy Bridge will be well worth it.

About the IB delay: I thought it was only dual core IB that was delayed?

    Thx for the replies :)
I think I'd better wait for the p150em, and I don't really mind waiting til June even if the ivy bridges are delayed (hopefully only the dual cores).

Yup, once a p150em gets a launch date Clevo might even drop the prices on the p150hm/p151hm to clear some stock.

Another vote here for waiting a week.

At least you'll probably know a release date after CeBIT is over, and then you can make a more informed decision.

I was in your shoe too but I just said wth i'll just do it now because better stuff are always coming out and I could essentially end up waiting a year or 2. But i just mailed payment will take a week to arrive then they gotta process...

Xotic told me that if during that time till product actually ships I can always change my mind or if prices change I will get difference back and I have 30 day return policy. So I figured I mine as well get stuff moving.

If you're hard set on getting a p150hm you better hurry up. It looks like some of the resellers have stopped carrying that chassis, probably because of the upcoming models.

Any idea of a release date, or when they will announce one?

Purely speculation that there was to be some announcement at CeBIT.

There is no official word yet as to when the new IVB models will be released nor has there been announcement at CeBIT yet.

Xotic is taking pre-orders for the 8131, 8151, and 8171 (looks lke the new em's) right now. They cannot give us all the details for GPU and IB, however, because of the NDA's that are in place.

Are those built on the new chassis or the ones left in-stock? I see the "new" stamp, but they sure look like the old HM. Can someone from xotic clarify what they are exactly?

They just haven't updated pics and show old specs because they can only disclose so much because of NDA's.. They've clarified all they can clarify already in three or four other threads..

These shouldn't be available until late April.

I'd say if you really need a laptop now, go ahead with the P150HM right now.

I am curious if it is safe to upgrade IB the moment it launches? I am with the OP, too many possibilities, hard to decide!

If you mean upgrade a current laptop TO Ivy Bridge, that part isn't going to be possible as they're not forwards compatible with the new processors. Though if you meant buying Ivy Bridge and being an early adopter, that's entirely up to you. There's no way to know if there will be any problems with it (there usually aren't any though, so you're usually pretty safe).
