Hey, just wanna say im new to the site but been reading posts for last few weeks and i got to say this site is the best!
I've never owned a laptop and have a real pos desktop so i decided to get a laptop since i'm going to college in the fall and i still want to be able to game. the sager 5760 really caught my eye and i am planning to order mine this week sometime to get the discount price hopefully. i just wanted to thank everyone for there more then helpful posts that proceeded to help me with this decision
here is what i plan to buy:
Screen : the WSXGA+ "super glossy"
Modular Video Card: 7950gtx 512mb

Notebook Solutions Company Representative NBR Reviewer
Welcome to NBR Justyn.
There is just one thing I want to ask you. With such a great budget, why not just wait for Santa Rosa notebooks with DX 10 video cards? I would prefer that personally.
I would advice you to wait. And then buy a T7700, 2 GB of RAM with an 8600Go (similar to a 7900GS) or wait for 8800Go solutions or HD 2900 Mobility. I think it is worth the wait. -
is it not going to be more expensive? i'm cutting it real close spending 2200 on laptop 2300 is probably max i can possible go right now. When are they going to release them is there a date ?
-
Well don't worry, the 5760 should be more than enough for what you wanna do and will be for some time still. If you got a great deal, go ahead
.
1. I think so. You get the deal from the order date, not the delivery date.
2. Pay it. 45$ is not much but you never know when you'll need it. Best usage now is with a bluetooth phone for surfing the net. But somehow, even though BT stays relatively unpopular some manufacturer makes great accessories. I got the 2 bluetooth mice from Microsoft (8000 series - desktop and laptop), my treo for very occasional surfing, and a bluetooth headset. All working nicely together, except for when I listen to MP3 with the headset. It takes almost all available bandwith so the mouse stutter a little bit. -
I agree, the Sager 5760 is a well-regarded laptop, apparently Sager's top-seller, and even with the release of Santa Rosa notebooks, will still continue to be offered by Sager.
However, if you do want to opt for the wait on Sager laptops with the Santa Rosa chip set, I believe the release is supposed to be sometime in the summer -- not 100%, but fairly certain. However, no official release date for the Clevo M750ru has been mentioned (the Sager 5760 is known as the Clevo m570u).
Not sure, though how pricing will work out once the Santa Rosa laptops are released -- a price increase is probably a good bet. -
The high-end 7950GTX well over performs all DX10 mobile 8600's [which are considered mid-range], as well as every other current mobile videocards.
It should easily last you for years.
Waiting for Santa Rosa might not be worth waiting for, especially for those that have budget constraints... as well as losing the chance to get the rare $300 discount for these high-end notebooks. And in a gaming notebook, the CPU is not that important, as long as its a dual-core... thats all thats needed. -
alright... thx guys i think im going to order my 5760 this weekend or monday woot!

When I was at last year's E3, I had some good talks with the AGEIA programmers and engineers. The PhysX actually off-loads the physics calculations from the CPU's shoulders onto the PhysX PPU (supposedly the PPU can calculate physics math 100-200x faster than a high-end CPU). But there are only a handful of games that are currently even requiring that much physics:
(most notably)
- City of Heroes/Villians
- Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
.... and the upcoming Unreal Tournament 3 (previously known as UT2007)
I played side-by-side these games, with and without the PhysX card. Definitely noticeable, especially with particle effects and explosions. But I do not think that the card is required as of yet, since the performance increase does not warranty the price tag.
Check out the AGEIA Reality Mark to benchmark your score of all physics calculations (even without the PhysX Card). It seems a bit one-sided in showing how craptacular the scores are with just having a CPU [compared to having a PhysX card].
The best way to improve these games is to just get the PhysX card, but currently there is no mobile version [although I gave them the idea to make a PCMCIA/Express Cards for notebook gamers].
So true that the CPU is required for certain games, but the overall current games that are out do not have the CPU as the bottleneck over the GPU. -
anyone able to link me to a picture of what the standard carrying case looks like and if not any real recommendations on a good backpack so i can haul this thing around thx

The WSXGA+ "Super Clear Glossy" screens are no longer on back order...they came in yesterday!
The NP5760 will NOT be available once the new model (M570RU) is released in June. It may have been their best seller, but it will not be refreshed to accept the Santa Rosa, so it will be gone sometime in June. -
@Justyn awesome purchase you won't be sorry! -
-
Yes starting off with the 7950GTX unless the Go 8800 is available or they decide to go with the Go 8600. And of course you can upgrade
-
Donald, I was wondering if you can give us an estimate date for 570ru... I have couple of dead pixels on my 5760 and I'm returning it to powernotebook for a new one... but I might wait around if it is sooner than i expect.
-
I know that clevo notebooks' gpus are upgradeble, but I was just wondering if any of the sager vendors perform upgrades for price??
-
Interesting...so the NP5760 will be phased out by the Clevo m570ru/whatever Sager will re-number it as. I would assume, then that the pricing will be very similar -- unless of course there's a small premium to be paid for Sager's use of Intel's new chip set?
@ laee3: As for it's release, evidently June, from the above post:

1. M570RU estimated ship date is June or possibly July. At this time there is no way to put a specific date to it...it isn't finished yet.
2. There is no guarantee the GPU will be upgradeable, but Sager would do the upgrades should they become available. Exactly what would be required (e.g. just the GPU or new MB and AC Adapter) is simply unknown at this time.
