Alright, I'm not too knowledgeable on computers, and I'm trying to decide on how to customize it. I've decided to buy it off PC Torque, for the warranties and such. My first dilemma is wheter to get the "5720-C" or "V".

    http://www.pctorque.com/sager-5720-gaming-computers.php

Here's what I'd like to know...

    1. What screen resolution is best for gaming? The C version offers a choice between WSXGA and WUXGA, but the V only offers WUXGA.

    2. Is the 8x DVD + - w/ combo drive on the V a writable drive?

Also, there's some stuff on customizing that I'm pretty clueless about.

    1. What are megabytes for again? >_<

    2. Is the dead pixel policy really necessary? Does the extended warranty not cover it if it arrives with a dead pixel?

    I appreciate the help!

Oh, and a random question...I have an Alienware 5500 at the moment, and I'm curious if 98˚ browsing the internet, and 108˚ playing a game is normal. >> And this is after the cooling system thing was replaced once...

I'd recommend www.powernotebooks.com over PCtorque, nothing against PCtorque I just like powernotebooks better.

    1. WSXGA and WUXGA are both fine for gaming but probably the WSXGA because many games don't allow WUXGA resolution and playing on the native resolution is generally best.

    2. Yes.

1(#2?). They're a measuring stick for different computer parts to compare performance and such.

2.(#2..). Its not 100% necessary, up to you, dunno about the rest.

No, that's not normal, that's really hot...

Alright, I think I've decided...how does this look?

    17” WSXGA+ LCD (Glossy 1680 X 1050)

    Pentium M ( 760 ) 2.0 GHz 533 MHz

nVIDIA GeForce Go 7800 GTX w/GDDR3

    1024MB 533DDR2 (1 x1024)

    80GB 7200RPM SATA

    8X DVD/24X10X24 CDRW Combo Drive

    Windows XP Professional (+SP2 CD)

    Spare Lithium-Ion Battery (8Cell)

Additional 2 Year Extension w/ Onsite and 1st Year Accidental Coverage (cause I’m clumsy)

That looks good, it'll do pretty much anything you need it to.

I like it. Good idea getting 1 x 1024MB instead of 2x512 becuase it will be easier to upgrade later.

Very decent build for the 5720. I have one myself, and you wont regret buying it :)

PS. Oh yah, your alienware does seem to really be playing abnormally hot, but i dont know a whole lot about temps in laptops, other than they should be kept as low as possible. I'd get it checked.

Solid configuration. Nearly identical to mine. You won't regret choosing the WSXGA+ screen. I can run every top game at very high to ultra settings without the slightest problem.
