    Hello everyone,

I am having a "medium" laptop for now, namely an Acer Aspire 5742G (with 460M, soon 820QM, a GT540M, 8gigs of ram, soon a SSD plus a 640gigs HDD, etc).
But I'm thinking of replacing it with a most powerful one, mostly for the upcoming games, such as Skyrim or BF3 for example.

Well, my choice would probably be the P150/151HM one, maybe P170HM if the price is interesting too.

Now, I'm asking myself if I could get it from an American web-reseller, such a Sager or whatever, because the price would probably be more interesting (with the $/€ rate).

Which one, do you think, would have the most interesting prices for an international delivery please ?

An I'm also hesitating between the 560M and the 6970M as graphics cards, so if you could help me please.
    And I think I would more likely have a 900p screen if I get a 15.6" one, because I saw a 1080p 15.6" screen and I found it a bit awful, I mean, too little ^^'

    Thank you in advance,
    Have a good day,
    Anynoupy.

    Salut!

I know there is Clevo France if you want to see their prices. It may save you a lot of money in shipping. There are also dealers in the UK and Germany.

From what I have seen from EU prices however, the prices in North America in the US and Canada are much cheaper for the basic system but you may lose money on shipping. I cannot tell you anything about American reseller shipping prices however, because I am in Canada and purchased from a Canadian reseller. I think www.eurocom.com might ship internationally. Your best option is to contact each reseller and see what they will offer you for shipping.

I understand what you mean by a 1080p screen that is 15.6" being hard to see because the resolution is so high but actually you get accustomed to it and I find I am able to work better now. If you get a 1600x900 screen a 560M should be enough for if you get an 1920x1080 screen, I believe you may be better off with a 6970M. The reason I say this is that Skyrim will probably get a lot of user mods and they may require more power to run smoothly. Also with the 560M, you will be able to run most games on maximum details except you may not be able to use antialiasing and still have a smooth framerate.

Thank you for your answer ;)

I already went on French/UK/German websites, but the prices were really higher than on US websites.
In fact, the only reseller on which I could see clearly the shipping costs was XoticPC, and with the shipping costs of 220$ (ouch), the Sager NP8130 was about 1380$ I think, so about 970€, clearly more interesting than EU resellers.

The other question is could I get an Azerty keyboard ? 'Cause on every "configurator" there's no option for it, so I don't kno whether I could get it or not, but maybe I could get it by another way.

About Eurocom, I saw they were shipping internationaly, thanks, but I don't remember if the prices were interesting or not, will check it again, thanks ;)

About the 1080p screen, in fact I already got eyes problems, so I don't know if it will get worse with that screen or not, that's most of what I fear ^^'
    I think I will try to get a Matte-type screen, whether it's a 900p or a 1080p one.

    Hiya,

Most of the time our the american resellers dont have azerty keyboards (its been asked before)

Just be aware of income tax which will be payable when bringing a laptop into the EU of up to 30% of the value and if you need to have something fixed on RMA you will have to pay postage both ways

Oh lord no, never go to eurocom. Not on what I've heard.

XoticPC isn't bad for international shipping. I recommend them wholeheartedly.

Malibal has a 40% off code you can use for international shipping though; it's attached to their poster's signature on this website. Their prices match XoticPC's down to the cents on the P151HM1 (NP8130) to my knowledge. But I've not bought from them. Good things are heard about them though.

Warranty in each case will be a pain with international, but it's a Sager so that warranty most likely will be just for show =P.
As for that keyboard, e-mail the resellers and ask if they can use that for you. They might be able to; it's just that they're US based countries so no reason to include the option in the configurators.

I would contact Clevo France and see if they will sell you an Azerty keyboard separately. It is very easy to install.

Thanks to all of you for your answers :)

About the income tax, is it forced for me to go through it or are there some "possibilities" to avoid it please ?
'Cause if it's about 30% of the total price, it's clearly less interesting ^^'

About the shipping rates, on xoticpc, with no code or whatever it's about 220$, whereas on Malibal, it's about 260/290$, but seems to be faster, and I didn't find any code in the signature of MALIBAL #2 ^^' (it's written 40% OFF, but no code next to it).

About the keyboard, you're right, I'll ask them directly, I don't doubt it must be really easy (it already is on my computer ^^).

    Thanks :)

    Anynoupy,

If you factor in shipping costs + customs fees you might actually pay more.
Try DevilTech they have the best prices as far as I know and shipment to France should be around € 50. No taxes since it's EU. Also FR keyboard is available.

Thanks cri-cri, I already went on approximately all Clevo resellers, whether they are in Europe or not, and that's true that Deviltech has got good prices :)
But it's still really more than US prices I find, but maybe if I get taxes and else it won't be so interesting, so I got to see it.

    Thanks ;)

You will have to check the import taxes, duties, fees, and VAT that France charges for importing computers.

I was told by a Malibal staff member that the only fees I would have to pay would be VAT for France, and shipping costs of course ;)

If you want to be sure that you don't have to pay 30% to get your laptop, take a trip to the states, buy the laptop (from Xotic as they can have that thing out within a week of your money being cleared with them; that was my case, they got the money the monday, it was out the Wednesday, it arrived, internationally, that friday, after I bought 3-day shipping).
I'm sure if you walk with a laptop as luggage they won't charge you customs =p

VAT in France is 19%. The best option would have a friend coming back from the US bring it for you, avoiding shipping and sales tax. Do be aware however that should you need to return it for warranty you'll need to pay the international shipping and all the money saved thanks to the price difference would probably be wasted.

I live in Switzerland, and bought my first laptop from XoticPC (np8660). My second one (P501 - P150HM) I bought from mysn.de, as the price were pretty much equivalent when including shipping costs, and knowing i would only need to ship it to Germany if any problem would arise gives an extra piece of mind.

Reseller wise, both were great and would come recommended.

    Thanks for your answers.
Well, I compared both, deviltech and Malibal, and it seems that, when including VAT and shipping costs, it's true that the difference is really light, moreover I got an Azerty keyboard and a 6970m at deviltech, so I think it's really more interesting in the end ^^'

And that's true, coming to warranty, deviltech would be much easier ;)

Now I've got to decide whether I buy it or not (need to sell mine first), and if so, which exact config to get ;)
