AMD Catalyst 12.7 BETA (8.981.2 June 12) - Guru3D.com Forums

ah, finally, about time!
anyone with a 7970M willing to test these out and compare performance to the modded 12.5 beta drivers?
cheers -
Well this one works very good for BF3 and Crysis 2.
Skyrim's still flickering for me and they broke Crossfire scaling in Bad Company 2 again, which is fixed in the 9.00 unofficial beta. -
I dont get it, the 12.6 beta drivers are 9.00, why are these 12.7, 8.98s??
sorry for noob question, used to use nvidia... -
Can anyone confirm this fixes (or at least helps) issues raised in the thread 7970M GPU utilization in games / benches?
-
12.7 is Year.Month of intended release
8.98 is actual driver family branch
Meaning that you should look out for the second number and give a damn about the Year.Month number. Some WHQL's as the 12.4 don't even write the 12.4 in the Catalyst Info Tab. -
Doesnt work for me
-
Did you deinstall previous drivers properly? -
-
Downloading nao, the 12.6 beta barely gave me any better performance on bf3.

One of our customers used this method:
Install the official Clevo 7970M package without installing the actual display driver. Then install only the display driver from the Guru3D package. This results in a disabled CCC and disabled Enduro + the expected increased benchmark results. Loads of fun.. -
-
-
and yeah sadly Clevo too is afflicted by enduro, there are at least 2/3 3ds only on this forum about that -
didnt work for some reason. my 7970m says there was a problem with this driver in device manager and when i try to run any games it runs on intel hd graphics card.
-
Jesus...AMD drivers....sigh.

i tried both, still the same error, screenshot attached.

I first uninstalled the 12.6 beta (complete uninstall of amd software) and realized the intel drivers were still installed but catalyst option when right clicking is gone. So I installed the 12.7 and its working, didn't even need to re-boot! Problem is enduro is still on, and yes, my performance on BF3 is still about the same as the stock drivers. Overclocking on 900/1400 I still get the same FPS around 30-70 (bounces around), and also the temps went all the way to 75C. Even lowering the resolution and turning off MSAA I STILL get 30-70 and sometimes all the way down to 20 FPS. MSI says I was using 95% GPU power. It has to be the lack of driver support for ENDURO to work properly. It's like even when the game is set to high performance enduro still kicks in and makes FPS drop sometimes. Alienware users with enduro disabled say they get 50-60 stable fps on stock clocks. -
I get the same as arcticjoe.
Come on AMD! Sort it out! -

These drivers won't work, they aren't switchable capable. You can't just upgrade one driver (AMD) and not the other (Intel) at the same time, there are specific filter drivers that have to go inbetween. Its not quite like the nV drivers where the intel and nV drivers are de-coupled. The AMD switchable system HAS to have monolithic (AMD + Intel) drivers or it won't work.
Now for those with a 7970m in a HM series (No switchable) these will work great -
-
ha, at least one advantage for HM users
hm, weird tho, isnt it? i mean, are there any (officially supported) laptops out there with a 7970M that DO NOT support switchable graphics? -
I supported yours last time...
-
So for those of us on 150EM systems with enduro + 7970m, what is currently the best driver solution?
-
-
-
Yeah I would love to know how you got them working. I've uninstalled everything AMD related, and used driver sweeper to get rid of the left overs but every time I install the 12.7 fresh it says there is not a compatible graphics card.
-
Alright I've tried the 12.7 drivers again after stripping all others off, and device manager notes that windows has stopped the device due to a code 43 error. Catalyst will not start because it doesn't recognize the 7970m.
-
I'm just gonna wait until AMD gets off their butts and provides some real support for this card. I kicked myself in the head for a couple of days trying to upgrade the driver. It's not worth the hassle at this point. -

Sorry for not being clearer, I have posted this info in another 7970m + enduro thread.
Anyway, following slickdudes recommendation. I installed the stock drivers from the cd that came with my clevo. I then opened up the 12.7 beta > 'install' > 'custom' > then deselect all options except 'display driver'.
Thats what I did, and it worked. I did have some trouble like you guys originally, but after reading slickdudes advice in another thread, it worked out fine (fingers crossed)
hope this helps -
-
Ah, so you installed clevo driver fully first? That's where I went wrong then, as I've installed everything from clevo's amd package but the driver itself. Will try that when I get home today

is enduro still disabled for you machine? -
At this point, it's better to have a working one than a broken one. -
Because I really am a determined fella, I'll try this suggestion Grug7 gave and report back. Lol thanks!
-
-
So do these drivers work well with the 7970m?
-
seems like the 12.5 mod ones are still the best to go perf. and stability wise...
