In a nutshell, I was trying to reinstall a program on my computer, and was shocked to find my CD Drive is not being recognized by the computer. Tried a system restore to see if it could correct itself but no go. Any suggestions on troubleshooting?

do you see the DVD drive in the BIOS?

If not, then thats your problem.

If yes, then its a software issue.

Then it might need to be re-seated.

    1) turn off your system and remove the battery first
    2) remove the optical drive and then re-seat it.
    3) look at the BIOS again, to see if its there.

If not, the optical drive might be defective.

Contact your vendor, and tell them what happened, and what you tried.

Then they will usually cross-ship you a new drive (while you ship back the defective)... to avoid from shipping the entire unit.

After trying that and setting the CD-ROM back in BIOS, it seems to have done the job. Thanks so much~
