    Hey there.
As you see im new to the forum, and also to the whole clevo barebone-notebook-thing.
There is currently an offer, that im watching. its a W230SS from "CEG hardcorecustom" ( LINK)

So. im a student in germany and money is short, that deal sounds quite good from my perspective. Considering that the usual competitors start at a way higher price range (mySN, etc.)

Of course i read the THREAD from ingvarr sharing his - rather bad - experience with CEG. But me being based in Germany and reading that the intial customer service replies were rather prompt, etc Im thinking about pulling the trigger.
It would be awesome if some of you could give me advice/share experience with either the company itsself or the specific model. Im especially concerned about the heat.
I kinda want this to replace my old Asus Netbook which i had for about 4 years - since i have no experience with Clevo/Sager at all any, experience of longer usage will be appreciated alot.

So far its either this W230SS or a Lenovo Y50 - what do you guys think?

    (Obligatory "sry for bad englando")

Hello, Welcome to the forms....everyone here is really nice so ask away any questions you have...as for your question what do you really think you will be mostly using this laptop for is it for gaming, is it for processing videos, it really just depends on what you are going to need most out of a laptop as to what model would be the best, I will say I am not that familiar with that model, only thing I might have a small concern about is the 860m, from what I have heard the 8** series run kind of hot but depending upon what you plan on using it for, it might not get hot at all so yah let me know what you think you will be using it for most and I will try to give you a better answer :)

The W230SS will outperform the Y50 by miles...there is simply not enough cooling headroom on the Lenovo. I know a bunch of people who have sold the Y50 in order to get a W230SS.

Though personally I wouldn't get it with an i5 CPU...too much CPU intense work to be done on the go.

Hey Prema, thanks for the reply! i actually thought about that as well. the Clevo model actually looks like it has some quality copper-heatpipes, while also being not as thin as the Y50.

Why no i5? isnt an i7 usually more power comsuming and drains battery much fast/produces more heat?

You can even disable cores with my BIOS Mod, making a single core out of a quad...

Thanks for the advices guys! The only thing im concerned about is the price. Considering that this model usually starts at 850 bucks with 8gb and an i5. Sure its just an 120gb HDD. Just wondering how they can offer it THAT cheap. We`ll see what happens.

So, it took a bit of time, simply because I actually forgot about this thread. Forgive me NBR!

    I ordered from CEG, the W230SS, i5 4330, 8 gb RAM, GTX 860m, with a 120gb SSD - no OS installed.
Did the order on the 27.05.2015 via ebay. It said the location of the product would be within germany - so i assumed CEG would have it in stock (Delivery was scheduled to be around the 1 0th of June, i was ok with that.)
Emailed with them back and forth about the status of the deliver, since its rather unusual that a delivery within germany would take more than a few days.
One of the first emails they send me on the 28.05. said:
"Wird im laufe nächster Woche Versendet." - roughly translates to: "we gonna ship it next week"

So everything seemed perfect so far. After that week had passed I emailed them again about the status of the delivery. A few emails later it seemed to be obvious that the laptops location wasnt within germany, they had to import it and that the product is currently in customs (09.June). i took that with a grain of salt to be honest, since they advertised the location to be in germany, and telling me in an earlier email that they would deliver earlier than expected.

They kept me updated with the whole process, which i appreciated and the laptop finally arrived on the 18th of june. A week later than initially planned.

I got to say: the waiting was worth it! Not only have i gotten a quite awesome laptop for a very(!) cheap price, compared to Schenker(XMG) etc. But there were also things i didnt expect them to do with the delivery as well.

I opened up the package and there was the standard Driver CD included, now since this laptop doesnt have an input device for CDs, i thought id have to download them. But CEG actually included a Kingston 8gb usb stick packed with all the drivers - that was surprisingly handy, unexpected and a really cool extra to have! (sadly it was mainly the win 8.1 drivers. me being a fan of win7 i installed that, and had to manually look for some of the missing things, but overall no big deal.)

So besides the rather long shipping process (including some mis-information, BUT a steady upkeep on the status of it) i am simply amazed by the product!
With all the reviews of how hot this thing gets, my experience is the contrary(maybe because of the i5): Processor idles at around 42°C, even after long sessions of gaming i never reached the 70°C mark. The display is simply amazing!

Bottom line: I have never been more impressed by a laptop/ pc that i owned (okay, only had netbooks over the last years and my last owned tower still had a geforce 2MX 32mb in it) But so far i am not going to see myself "going back" to the likes of acer, asus and co. CEG delivered an awesome product for an amazing price.

The only thing i really didnt like in the email contact were the "one line responses" including emotes and smileys, no signature or name within them. maybe its a personal thing, but if i hand you a reasonable amount of money those answers(although you guy/s react fast) getting back short answers with a twinking smiley just leaves some kind of bad vibe - were doing business and are not trying to be best friends.

So far after one month of using this bad boy, i can totally see myself doing future business with CEG.

TL;DR: long shipment, fast but sometimes misleading email support, GREAT product for an awesome price. 9/10, would totally recommend!

Hi, i see postage is about 70 euros to my country and i well know by experience that DHL have a very bad delivery service (not sure if it's local or international).

This forum does not seem to enable me to send PMs... I wanted to ask clevo-extreme if orders can be posted with different company (that must be an option if DHL have been on strike for 6+ weeks!!) and about discount code too.
