    Hello,

I have a Clevo Laptop W76CU and i replaced the damaged mainboard (P/N: 6-71-M77C0-D03B GP) with a compatible new mainboard (P/N: 6-71-B5120-D03 GP). Between them are the same . I purchased the last mainboard because the first (damaged) was out of stock and it hasn't availability. The damaged has Mobile Intel Express Chipset PM55 (BD82PM55) and i have an Intel Core i7 720QM CPU installed on it. I know that my new mainboard has Mobile Intel Express Chipset HM55 (BD82HM55) and supports the above CPU. When i install this CPU on the new mainboard i hear a beep and i see after a start up the message ''DON'T SUPPORT THIS CPU. TURN THE POWER OFF'' on my monitor. While i can go to the bios settings pressing F2.

    My new mainboard (B5120) has:

    Β5120 bios ver 1.00.09
    KBC/EC Firmware 1.00.05
    VBIOS REV: BR36752.

and my question is why i have this problem since the Mobile Intel Express Chipset HM55 officially supports Intel Core i7 720QM CPU.

What i need? A newest bios?

I will be grateful if someone can give me a solution for my problem.

    Thanks
    Skouras Stylianos

The motherboard bios itself needs to support the cpu, due to power delivery restrictions they have not included the required micro codes.

The board does not support the quad core CPUs, the B5120 only ever shipped with dual core CPUs. I don't know if it's a physical and/or a firmware restriction stopping it from working.

You could try flashing the bios of your original model to try but it may just brick it, the other option would be to move over your old bios chip by de-soldering the chips and soldering your old chip on the new board.
