Hey guys I'm interested in the clevo chassis with the amd ryzen 9 3900.

The site I'm considering buying from is https://laptopparts4less.frl.

It is offering the NH55AFW and NH57AF1 with the exact specs, but with the NH57AF1 having a metallic lid and 100eur higher price; is this the only difference? (if it is, is it worth the 100eur?)

    The catch:
Does anyone know the differences between the NH55AFW and NH57AF1?

    Thank you all in advance

I would confirm with the shop just in case as things like display can be up to the shop but usually the last digit is just a cosmetic and finish material thing and that's it.

Yeah, I thought so my self, I already emailed Frits just to be sure and I'm waiting for his response. But it's good to know from others as well. Don't know though if the metal lid dispenses the heat more than the plastic one, despite the cosmetic factor.
Thank you for your interest @Meaker@Sager! I appreciate it.

It's a cosmetic and tactile thing.

Confirmed with the shop as well. Only the metal lid.

Well me too, but i prefered to spend the same amount of money adding an ssd 1tb from the shop, since i also didn't want to open up the beast and mess with the warranty. Also still the NH57AF1 is still not available to buy.

Upgrading an SSD should not impact your warranty.

Yes I believe that my self but in order to change/add your ssd, on this specific model you have to open the whole case underneath. This doesn't affect your warranty? I already asked by email about this but did not get a clear answer if it does interfere with the warranty. The exact answer was this: "You can add components yourself, but you do it at your own risk. We do not recommend it.". So I guess that you do affect your warranty.

If you break it while doing the swap you are not covered, no. That's what they are getting at.

Yes, of course, but the whole idea of the warranty is that you haven't by any means, even by accident interfered with any of the "inside" components. That could mean even the slightest touch to any of the circuits inside. How would the manufacturer could guaranteed that any of an occured problem didn't happen by the buyers mistake, since the whole case is opened. I'm thinking like the companies. I Don't know if you understand what i mean.

There is some reasonable expectation of durability, if we spot physical damage in the machine then that's another thing.

Does anyone know why the crucial 3200mhz cl22 and crucial ballistix 3200mhz cl 16 are having problems during memtest? I originally chose the crucial cl22 and told by frits that was having this problem and that they're going to test out the Samsung 2666mhz cl19. I asked since the things turned out like this to try the crucial ballistix, but still the same problems. Does anyone know why is this happening? It is claimed by crucial that is fully compatible with ryzen processors.

Could be AMD Agesa needs an update or some timing is unhappy.

Maybe. With the 3700x the crucial 3200cl22 works without issues. Pairing it with the 3900 it is unstable.
Anyway the Samsung 2666cl19 works just fine, and due to the lower cl, should be pretty much the same as the crucial one.
And since it's the cpu- ram combination that causes problems, I prefered to keep the stronger cpu and I could do a future change with the ram (if they solve this problem with a bios fix anyway).

    What's your opinion?

The ram speed is pretty important for these chips.

Yes, I can understand that. But what would you do in this case? Would you downgraded to 3700x with the 3200mhz cl22 or would you stick with the 3900 and downgrade the ram to 2666mhz cl19?

This is from the thread that xmg posted (best ware) for the NH57AF1 (NH55AFW as well)

"RAM: AMD Ryzen can go up to 3200MHz, but the modules need to be able to support this spec natively. The NH series does not support XMP memory profiles. In our FAQ we will keep a list of memory modules that are guaranteed to give you the 3200MHz memory speed. For price-sensitive buyers, we also offer a 2666MHz budget option. According to our tests, the performance gap between is about 5% on Ryzen 5 3600 but only 2% on Ryzen 9 3900."

I'm willing to sacrifice that 2% over the overall performance upgrade of the 3900 has to offer against 3700x!
All these If the numbers that are stated are true.

    I’m seeing that.
I’m going to order the new PC50DF1 with the 2070 max-q.
It’s almost 200€ cheaper than the same config in Portugal

Looks like a nice one. From what shop are you buying clevo in Portugal? I'm waiting for it, probably in the upcoming Monday. I'll post for update.

Just be aware that Clevo Center is a crappy store with lots of bad reviews, but its the only one that will offer you a Prema BIOS, if you can do basic maintenance so you can avoid them at all if possible after the purchase, might be your best bet.
Obsidian-PC has their own BIOS mods and the Fan and keyboard control apps, you must decide.
