Yesterday I talked with a seller about the possibility of upgrading the video card of a Clevo M570U from 7950GTX to a 8000 series supporting DX10. He seamed knowlegeble and he told me there will be not problem. As a basis for his assertion he said they have been upgrading video card since Clevo M570A where they were using a ATI X1600. He owns a Clevo M570A that was a upgraded to a 7900 etc etc.

Also he told the that the architecture of the M570U as a standard video card interface and the new NVidia Card will for sure support the standard.

I left with a sense of assurance that if in one year I want to upgrade the Video Card to one fully supporting DX10 that will be possible. Having said this, my question is what do you Clevo experts think about his assertions and the question in particular? What might be the pifalls?

    Hey Trance.

Not sure if i'm getting your question right, but Clevos are by definition "upgradable" whiteboxes. So the "new" options you see on sager's configurator for the 5760 will work in yours.

For example when I bought mine the C2D wasn't still available. I could now go and buy the fastest Core2 and put it un my laptop. Same goes with memory, video card, netword card and hard drive.

My planned upgrades for the next 2 years are probably:
a DX10 card, hopefully nvidia will come with a 8000 go that's compatible.
a WiFi-n card. Intel released a reference card not so long ago to replace the b/g card we have in our clevo, but i've yet to see the option.
Probably a hybrid hard drive, but i'll wait for the models to come with a gig or 2 of flash memory. 256mb seems somehow low, though Samsung (is it samsung) states 1/2 hour and plus of added battery usage.

So yeah, if nvidia releases a "go" DX10 card it could work in your laptop, as long it's mini PCI xpress stuff. Fortunately the video card is not soldered onto the motherboard.

Well I have to admit I was partially wrong. It may work, it may not. I think thought that probably the mobile versions of graphic cards are less prone to radical architectural changes.

Anyways... Worse case it will be for my next clevo...

I guess if you see a 5760 on sager site in the near future with a 8800Go, then you'll be able to replace it. That's how I work; I regularly take a look at options for my model on Eurocom.com and see what's new...

Agreed! If the 88xx Go becomes available, I'm there! :)

Actually.. the M570A/U's vga module and the upcoming 8800 series are a different form factor so I don't think it'll fit.

8800 is only available as MXM 2.0 modules.
