Hi all!
First post here, new user![]()
I’m burning my brain out here since the past week trying to figure this out.
I have an old Clevo laptop model M740TU/M760TU with an Intel(R) PM45 + ICH9M Chipset (nVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS) with the latest BIOS firmware.
My old HDD started to act funny so I bought an SSD drive (Kingston a400) and trust me, I have tried everything I could find online but no matter what I do, the new SSD drive is not recognized in the BIOS when I plug it into the sata module where the old hdd was.
I tried use it as an external drive connecting it via usb to another PC and the ssd drive is recognized in windows 10 with no issues at all.
As soon as I connect it as an internal drive on my old clevo the bios can’t see it.
I installed an old 90gb HDD I found in my house on the clevo PC and the bios was able to recognize it with no issues and is working just fine, but I want to use my new SSD drive on it and it’s driving me nuts not to know why the bios can’t see it.
I appreciate any help anyone can give me here to make it work, or maybe the old clevo can’t simply handle the ssd drive and there’s nothing I can do, but I need to try my best so I need your help for that.
Anyway, thank a lot in advance for the help.
Cheers!

Is it a 7mm SSD? Have you made sure it's seating correctly?

Yes, it’s a 7mm ssd and I’m sure it’s seating tight, at least the connection seems fine -
seems to be an occurance with this chipset and laptops reading ssds -

An older drive might be more compatible with the older chipset like a crucial M4.

One more thing, could the CMOS battery not working/ dead on the laptop have something to do with the bios not recognizing the ssd? Maybe it has nothing to do with it but it doesn’t hurt to ask...
Thanks in advance once again! -

Usually not I would have thought but not hard to check/replace.

A multimeter could check? Is it below 2.7v?
