Heee guys,
What would you recommend for the wifi card?
Found a good sale for this laptop with a 970M 6 gig gpu, but without a cpu and wifi card.
For CPU I have found a i7-4800 MQ , but just thinking about a goo wificard (bluetooth also).
Thx

I think one of the best ones you can get for that model is going to be an Intel AC 7260. i7 4800mq is a pretty solid processor, I would say that one is a good one if you got it at a good price.

Just be sure to get the AC version like Pat suggested, there are non AC versions around.
-

Right, get the AC version, not N version. And the AC7260 is better than something like a 3160. I had a 3160 previously, and changed to a 7260 and haven't had any connection issues since.

Thx guys for the advice !!!
The reason I am buying this laptop is because I got a good deal, but I have never used these kinds of laptops before.
How is the build quality of the laptop?
Can I compare it to Alienware?
ALienware laptops are over priced and with this laptop it's so easy to access upgrade cpu and gpu !!!i_pk_pjers_i likes this. -

Better than the latest alienware devices in my opinion certainly.
-
Get the 7260ac like everyone has recommended... This is a good laptop and Prema magic should mean Polaris/Pascal GPUs work with it in the future!

Yeah, Clevo's generally have more options for upgrades and configuration than AW does. The p177sm certainly has plenty of room you can add in to it, to make it a pretty powerful system still.

(Alienware makes a decent system; I've got nothing against the brand.)
-
Thx for the replies.
The reason I mentioned Alien ware is of the fact that I have had 3 alienware laptops (2 bought brand new).
My last alienware was the m17x r2 and it was 5.5 kg and very thick.
This laptop is lighter (4 kg) and a bit thinner.
So for me this laptop is slimmer
This laptop can be easily upgraded , I purchased a i7 4800MQ and with the 970M I should have enough power.
I am very suprised how much you can customize the clevo laptops and there are even laptops with a desktop cpu !!
Alienware is expensive and I dont like the look of it anymore, clevo laptops look more mature in that way.
Hope I will have the laptop for the weekend, but will let you know. -

The 970M and 4800MQ is a potent combo still.

Got the laptop today and first thing I did was to place the cpu.
This went very easy.
Then I started to install windows 10 from usb stick and this also went quick.
Did notice that the keyboard wasnt responding.
I checked the keyboard and the kabel wasn't correctly plugged in to the motherboard.
This was a bit difficult but I did manage to put it in correctly.
Now the keyboard is responding but the keys are different then then I type.
ANyway, I notified the shop and see what they say.
But to my suprise, I was thinking this was a barebone.
I placed the cpu and SSD plus ram.
Seemed there was a wireless card already : Intel WIreless N 7260 , this was the suggested here.
ANd here is the big suprise:
it came with a gtx 980M instead of the 970M I ordered !!!!
Played starcraft 2 legacy of the void on extreme setting, 1920x 1200 and I was average 90 fps
This game is more cpu intensive, but still.
ANyway, bad thing is the keyboard, good thing is the 980M .
ANd I noticed how light the laptop is!!! Well compared to my alienware it feels very light.
ALso there isnt much noise.
I am already very happy with the laptop. -

You would be with that kind of different GPU. Try reseating the keyboard again.
-
Yes yes I know
I am just thinking of telling it to the shop.
ANyway, first fix the keyboard issue.
I did what you asked and still the same issue, its like the keys are all switched.
Think the keyboard ribbon cable is broken.
I have guaranty so would expect to get a new keyboard.
Am amazed how they didnt properly connect the cable in the first place, it didnt look logicall, but still.
Lets see what the shop will answer tomorrow. -
The sound led lights just above the keyboard are not working.
Sounds like a driver issue, do you know by any chance which driver I need? I couldnt find it . -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You need the clevo control center.
-
thank you sir, that was it
now just the new keyboard and my laptop is complete
I noticed there are 2 M-sata slots and 2 ssd bays, total 4 disks
will use them all soon and also will put in 4 x 8 gig of ram -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes, loads of storage options on this model
you can even change the optical drive to a HDD (max interface speed is SATA II on that though).
-
-
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Yes, a SSD in the optical drive would still be a bit faster than a HDD, but it would be capped on speeds and not running at full potential. If you are putting drives there, use a HDD and SSD in the regular 2.5 inch bays.
-
I wasnt aware of it.
On my old alienware I had the same issue (there was only sata II), but still the laptop was fast.
I think read was about 250MB , which is still better than a normal HDD.
Probably I will get 2 m-sata's and one more SSD.
Depends on the price but storage would be 250 or 500 GB.
Just thinking about the cpu.
The i7 4700 MQ is only 6% lower than the latest i7-6700 HQ, but thinking of getting an i7-4930MX.
Will be using a lot of VM's and also playing games (starcraft 2 legacy of the void).
Would it be worth it when it comes to performance ? -
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
On the gaming, you probably won't notice much of a difference with the difference processors. For the VM's, it depends on how many you are running at once probably, but if you are running a lot and pushing the system, then that might be worth getting the 4930MX.

There was actually a big difference in fps. WHen using the high power settings, all the cores run at 3.3 ghz.
I assumed you couldn't change manually the boost settings with the cpu, but with the power setting you do have some control. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The higher cpus have some turbo multiplier options along with the extreme being unlocked.

The best cpu for this chassis is i7-4900mq or i7-4910mq is optimal to cpu heatsink
Gesendet von meinem SM-G935F mit Tapatalk -
Oke, thus the extreme edition would need a different heatsink?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The model uses the same heatsink throughout but it's true you don't get too much more out of the extreme compared to the 49xxqm series as they are at least partially unlocked.
