Recently received an ORIGIN PC EON15-X with a burnt 980m. Quite confident rest of system is intact and functional (removed MXM GPU and system would stay on instead of shorting out like before).
Instead of just getting another 980m, been trying to go through the forums for a concrete answer on what this system will take to no avail. Looking at maybe a 1070 or 1080? Any nudges in the right direction would be of great help. Thanks in advanced!

What LCD panel do you have? I think they are all EDP in that model. In which case a 10xx series would work just you need a standard shaped module, so not the clevo ones.

highest performance MXM gpu with standard dimensions would be a quadro P5200, which is basically equivalent to a 1080. otherwise u might go with an MSI 1060 or a standard shaped 1070 from Dell, available on ebay.

the Dell 1070s available on ebay also have standard layouts, but the MSI 1060 differs in that regard.
another options would be a quadro P5000, which is more or less equivalent to a 1070 in performance. but then id rather go for the Dell 1070s, since quadro cards are known to have ridiculous prices...
as for 20xx cards, no standard MXM cards available (yet). mobile turing quadros have been announced, so here is to hoping that we will have some options. but that will only become available around fall this year. plus expect insane prices and difficult to source....e3ray likes this. -
Thanks again for all the info jaybee. Hoping they keep up with the mxm standard and release some rtx cards our way soon. Meantime I'll probably look for 1070 and maybe run some kind of external thunderbolt 3 dock.
Any other tips or tricks you can think off for the p750dm? 4k screen on a 15" is a first for me. I've heard about unlocked bioses a lot, but as you can see from my sig, I haven't been in the whitebook scene for a while. -
On a other note, any way to run this system on external GPU (razer core) without a mxm onboard that you know off? Pretty sure there is no integrated GPU capability unless i have been misinformed?

You would need a special BIOS as normally that would brick the machine as it would have no GPU at all.

Got it, thanks Meaker, was a shot in the dark. Any word on rtx 20xx series mxm cards coming down from Sager? Even a 2060 would be nice.

Thanks for all the responses so far. Will probably go 1070 Dell.
On another note (and this might be for another thread) do newer clevo P75x variants use the same "case"? Could we upgrade to another chipset entirely that supports 20XX cards? -

i think we ended the discussion with 1070 cores soldered onto quadro MXM boards -

Not other than the current shape ones for RTX card.
