Good day and thank you for reading![]()
I'm looking for my first gaming laptop since i'll be deploying overseas for about 8months and need to stay entertained during downtime.
I'm very impressed by the specs of the P870KM1-G, and was wondering if it was worth spending over a month's salary in a laptop. FPS games will be my main use, photoshop will be second.
1) What are the common problems?
2) Will it overheat pre-OC?
3) Does it have enough cooling for some light OC?
4) How is the keyboard? (Been using mechanical for years)
5) I don't know anyone with a clevo computer, what lifespan can I expect? (Are they built right?)
6) People speak of the prema BIOS is it worth buying only from a prema partner?
7) I will have it shipped to Canada, but where do you recommend I get it from?
Thank you for your help![]()

With that in mind it shouldn't overheat, were you thinking 1080 sli?
The P870 keyboard is not very good to be honest... Note sure why it really should be better. The GT73VR 1070 sli is the most powerful machine besides the GT83 monster with a good keyboard.
Clevo's are built to last. See plenty of users here with very old models. I own one myself as do a ton of other power users around here.
HID is a Prema partner so you'd be all good there. Helps get the most out of your machine, especially for overclocks.
HID. Eurocom is an option but will not be as well cooled.
I will say this is kind of overkill for fps games. 100% get the 1440p 120Hz display if you go for it.
An Aorus X7 would be more than enough for most people, but the Clevo is gonna last a lot longer with how powerful it is.AngryCaribou likes this. -
1) What are the common problems?
Well, if you don't buy it from a reseller who knows how to best tweak the thermals, you're gonna have temperature problems.
Downloading drivers and BIOS updates directly from Clevo is nearly impossible. You will have to rely on your reseller for this or the Obsidian Driver Update Utility.
2) Will it overheat pre-OC?
Not if it's well assembled as Galm said. Make sure to get a delidded CPU with Liquid Metal paste between the IHS and CPU and good quality thermal paste on the CPU and GPU. Also some resellers use Shims to correct the gaps and ensure optimal contact for best cooling.
3) Does it have enough cooling for some light OC?
Again, same as above. Here, one thing to note is that HIDEvolution offers Silicon Lottery CPUs which is guaranteed to perform above stock speeds, if you are willing to pay the extra dollars for that.
4) How is the keyboard? (Been using mechanical for years)
Keyboard is ok for gaming and light use. Not very sturdy and not so good for lot of typing. Key travel distance is short. Feels fragile. In my personal experience, definitely on the bottom of the list of laptop keyboards.
5) I don't know anyone with a clevo computer, what lifespan can I expect? (Are they built right?)
As Galm already said, they are built to last.
6) People speak of the prema BIOS is it worth buying only from a prema partner?
I would highly recommend either buying from a Prema partner or a reseller such as Obsidian PC who also offers custom in-house modded BIOS to fully unlock the potential of the machine. But please note that the PREMA BIOS for this model is not yet available afaik. I bought from Obsidian PC, Portugal and I already have an unlocked BIOS.
7) I will have it shipped to Canada, but where do you recommend I get it from?
For warranty purposes and to avoid heavy customs duties and import taxes, its always good to get it locally. Eurocom is a Canadian company.
Since you mentioned both gaming and Photoshop, I would recommend either the 4K or the Full HD 60HZ IPS panels. The 1440P panel is TN and no matter how good they are, can't beat an IPS panel in color accuracy and viewing angles.

guess who has got a P870KM-1 for testing !
I will be making a review of this, from my layman's approach, as a avid gamer myself and what I think.
I have 2 infront of me, but one is a clients, and my brief time with it, allowed a great first impression !
@AngryCaribou I will try and help answer some questions, i know people are looking into this laptop, I am too, and purchased one and will share what i think once I have a chance to do so !
1) What are the common problems? Have not found any yet. Stay tuned ?
2) Will it overheat pre-OC? No this laptop should not, that wouldn't be acceptable, but lets find out ! What should I try to do with it stock before I go nuts and tweak it ?
3) Does it have enough cooling for some light OC? I think so, it boosts a Vapour chamber dual heatsink with more then enough surface ratio to make a difference in my opinion, at a glance, but lets find out with a few tests!
4) How is the keyboard? (Been using mechanical for years) You know what, it's better than i originally thought it would be, it's flat the keys are strong, the chassis holds up and does not bend under pressures. they keys are light to the touch and velvety or rubbery abit.
5) I don't know anyone with a clevo computer, what lifespan can I expect? (Are they built right?) From personalty experience, I have a few customers who have the X8 which is like 2-3 gens before this, but otherwise same laptop in a way, and they still have it and its going strong. They live all over the world and travel with it a lot. Looking at you @DARCODER I expect this to match that.
6) People speak of the prema BIOS is it worth buying only from a prema partner? No idea. I've never personally had one, I've had a SVET one, however, people swear by the unlocked PREMA bios, so that should be worth noting ! The one I have had an unlocked bios. Not sure what the difference is.
7) I will have it shipped to Canada, but where do you recommend I get it from? Personally speaking, I will send you a recommendation, because I am unsure about advertising practices on this forums presently. Me and Eurocom are both in Canada if that helps.AngryCaribou likes this. -

i start my "gaming" with alienware then i discover clevo. How? my brother wanted a fast laptop but not so expensive as alienware. I baught him a p170hm if i remembered well and i can guarenteed you he still use it without any problem since he dont play just for work or idk..
i wanted to switch my alienware to buy my first clevo a x8 p377sma from woodzstack and this laptop is a beast, such as woodzstack servicies. he might be a resellor but you free to discuss anything like a friend to match your dream hardware you looking for. From his location he can beat majority of all prices in the market and you dont receive doa laptop since he test them again. Thats why i always buy to him and i baught my new p870km1g. it wasnt even out and could purpose me allready!
I cant wait to receive my x9e3 you saw on that picture!
Anyway, i advise all people/friends to buy clevo/eurocom or hardware from woodzstack. -

Gotta add some salsa to your patties for juicy tasty burgers! -
HIDEvolution and ObsidianPC do delidding. They remove the IHS of the cpu and apply liquid ultra below and above. They also add shims to increase contact.
Eurocom would just apply a worse paste on top of the IHS and nothing else. -

In fact you can check our videos in our website and we do have our own BIOS version.
What is happening at the moment is that prema decided to OFFER his BIOS to my clients as a "thank you" for my work to the community, read the link in my signature.
