Now that it has an intel chipset and the i7 and surely upgradable to the GTX 380M with SLI, who's gonna get it? I'm thinking about it.

whats up with the weird grammar.
-
When is it going to be available because I hear not until march and Im getting the M980NU in Feb.

5.6kg ???
OMG -
not 1920x1200 screen, i have to buy alienware m17x
-
Boat anchor, what to do with another boat anchor. I would rather see the 900F upgraded with high end LED screen. Then open up the BIOS for O.C. and provide support for XION CPU's. And of course add the ATI 5870. Offer a SLI version for those that think they need it. SLI does not matter much if the application does not use it.

I wish they'd gotten rid of those gaming buttons and had the keyboard and number pad separated more.
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
I may do IF the stuttering for the M980NU cannot be fixed, IF I can get a good resale/trade-in value for my M980NU, and IF new mobile cards come out that are worthwhile (from what I've heard Im not very impressed with the GTX285m), IF they are not available for the M980NU.
Lot of IFs. -
Get rid of the numpad to make room for a serious set of gaming buttons.
-
I doubt i will, the 285 is just a clocked 280 which i can do anyway so no point there
The cpu upgrade is pointless for gaming so bleh
If they at 3 series cards as standard or 5 series then and only then will i be interested -
I would be very surprised if they are available for shipping pre may
-
DevilTech is charging less for the base config (single GPU) than for the W870CU. Only offers the GTX280m, though, and getting the second is 300Euro.
Source.
Ewwwww! No! -

D900F doesnt support Xeon?
It should support the current Xeons as the are "the same" generally as an i7 chip with only a lower TDP and cost ~$500 more for the same performance
Then again this might happen if you try
-
Oh that sucks.
-
well the m980 was announced around the same time and wasnt ready for shipping until beginning august to give you some idea
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Thats' true but things are a little different this year. For example the R2 Alienware M17X with the i7 and SLI is shipping in a couple of weeks and this time these are all with the intel chipset MB's verses the nVidia one of last year. These intel MBs for notebooks are in high production right now and Clevo has had the X8100 posted on their web site for a month. Last year the M980 did not get posted till much latter in the year, so I think in March sometime this thing should start moving. I hope.

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLY CRAP. And I just ordered a W860CU.
-
I wouldn't worry too much about it. This is a M980NU replacement (see the 18.4" size?) and not a W860CU replacement. Unless, of course, you were actually looking for something bigger than 15", but then I'd have to wonder why you didn't go for a W870CU at 17" instead of the W860CU...
-
I didn't want to get the M980NU because the processor wasn't that great. But now they replaced it with an i7.
-
Then why didn't you go for the 17" W870CU instead of the 15" W860CU, if size wasn't an issue? It's just that, for me, the next natural progression from the M980NU if I wanted an i7 instead of a C2Q would be down one step to the W870CU, as opposed to going down 2 steps to the W860CU...
-
The i7 mobiles that are offered here run at the lowest clock speed if all cores are in use, I think you'll only get the higher end speeds with some cores disabled; even when not on battery.
But I guess the i7 mobiles are still better than C2Q. Anybody know the TDP of the i7m? If it's 45W like the C2Q then I'll be happy. Not that I'm changing this laptop anytime soon, but later on I think I may run this as a server/programming machine and run my games on something like this new beastie =D -
The i7-720QM and i7-820QM are listed at 45W TDPs. The i7-920XM is listed at 55W TDP.
-
Now if this machine had the M17x's feature of turning on an integrated 9400m or so to save battery life, I think we'd have a perfect laptop on our hands =D
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
I was told by a MAJOR Clevo seller that the X8100 should be available to order before the end of February.
Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -
Anybody knows if the X8100 would have that swap-to-integrated-graphics-to-save-battery-life feature?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
No, it doesn't have integrated graphics so you can't switch to a lower power video adapter. But you can save a lot of money on your car insurance by switching to Geico.
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
According to Clevo's website the X8100 has the Intel PM55 chipset which does not have integrated graphics. It is listed a high performance chipset by Intel. See the link below comparing the new chipsets for notebooks.

maybe i'm the odd man out, but why is everyone going for the "sleek, keypad chiclet, stylings, with more lights on it" styling? I happen to like my sager in part because i can take it to class, nobody suspects it's a powerhouse, and it doesn't attract attention to itself.
Jason -
When I take my monster to class people just stare at it and ask me if it's a powerhouse simply because of its size. I like how the M17x looks, but I prefer a machine that doesn't attract attention.. of course whenever I get bored I play something and then people see hehe.
But I guess it's a matter of preference, just like how people tell me I know nothing about computers because I don't think netbooks are the best thing since sliced bread. People like laptops for looks and care not about the performance too ^^ -
I don't like netbooks either...if i wanted a laptop with a screen that small id just get like a 13 inch and it'd have a optical drive
-
That'd be awesome! I definitely won't mind the wait then. Since I planned on getting the NP9850 in February anywaysLast edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -
RGB LED an option??
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
As was reported you will be able to have this notebook in your hands by the end of this month!!

Oh snap......
-
These resellers are greedy...wow, 2k for a system without a CPU/HDDs/RAM/wireless and just a an LCD??? C'mon, you will pay 3k for 720QM/285SLI/4GB/2X320GB HDD/LCD...
Even with Dell (which isn't cheap) you would get same specs +RGB LED screen and 4870s in CF (IMHO slightly better than the 285s) for 2.5k.
I guess you should be grateful, at least it's not Eurocom. Those guys would easily up it to 4.5-5k... -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
It's $1900, and that includes S&H and for many states no sales tax.
I just went to both sites and priced out each config with Dual GPUs, 720qm, 4gb 1333, 500gb 7200rpm, wireless (5300 for x8100, 6300 for M17x-r2) and Windows 7 Home Premium.
x8100 total = 2674 (w/ 18.4")
M17x-r2 = 2674 (w/ 17" RGBLED)
That doesn't include tax or S&H (which are both included with the x8100 unless you live in Cali). For me in NJ, it would be $2861.18 before S&H for the M17x-r2. With 10% discount = $2575.6 before S&H.
And 4870's = 285's. The difference is negligible or application specific.
In other words, they're effectively equal.
Prefer Nvidia? Go X8100
Prefer ATI? Go M17-r2
Prefer the biggest screen out there? Go X8100
Prefer RGBLED? Go M17-r2 -
doesnt make any sense for someone with a M980 to get either tho
as neither is better for gaming in realistic terms -
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Fingers crossed in that it may be like the M17x R2, without the issues, due to better testing prior to release!
-
I forgot that you live in the US. For me things are different (Canada). You are right, the price is similar. I might even give Clevo a shot provided some interesting beasts emerge at CeBIt.
So far the only real thing keeping me away from Clevo is the support in Canada. Here Dell rocks 100%. I had 3 major (and free) replacements so far with next day deliveries. Their tech guys are noobs though, but as long as they let you do the job and keep your warranty intact - who cares. -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Service and support, I agree Aikimox;even here in the US, Dell rocks.
-
From my experience with Dell in UK, their support here is very good as well. What I love about Dell is that your warranty is transferable to any country you are going to\! I really wish Clevo would have such a support service... but as long as they work through resellers, sadly... this will never happen.

As a replacement for my Asus W90vp, I ordered this clevo machine...
Asus was actually nice enough to give me my money back, since they could not get the parts needed to fix it. I had nothing but troubles with my W90vp, so Im really hoping that this machine is gonna be a less more trouble making laptop. First time Im going for a clevo computer, but I took the chance to order it, since it looks llike most clevo owners are satisfied with theirs.
I really hope all the parts needed for my setup is in stock soon, because the old laptop im using right now got no chance in hell to run Mass Effect 2... -
The exact same happened to me. The GPU in my Asus W90VP got broken and the first replacement was broken as well so in the end I got my money back.
Considering going for the X8100, but always wanted an i7 + SLI GDDR5. How likely is it to see this in the near future and will it even be worth waiting for over i7 + SLI GTX 285M?
Guessing you are Norwegian OlePetter and ordered from www.multicom.no (Norwegian site)? If so, did you get any news on when they would be shipping the beast? -
Sli GTX 285M is quite powerful, but no better than the CF 4870 found in the M17x-R2. I would assume that the i7 chipset would solve any previous DPC latency problems.
CF 5870 will be worth the wait, but there's no guarantee if and when it will be available. -
Yeah, pretty much what I thought. I guess I should wait and see what Clevo has up their sleeves at Cebit. Though I still have my doubts they will put CF 5870 + i7 in any of their laptops. Mabye we will see an i7 + SLI GTX 380M later on (any speculations on when or if this will happen in 2010?). I guess waiting for i7 + SLI or CF of the newer GPUs are the smartest thing to do for futureproof.
-
I as well, believe Clevo will choose the GTX 380M before the 5870M, and it shouldn't be far off, most likely by summer?
It will lack DX11, but it will be made in 40nm fabrication, and stem from GT200 architecture. It's plausible we'll see a 256-bit + GDDR5 GPU then, which will more than make up for the wait! -
Yepp, i ordered from multicom, got very good experiences with their service.
I went for the X8100 setup with the i7 820qm, 8gb ram, 80 gb intel sdd gen2, 2 x 320gb 7200 rpm, bluray and offcourse SLI GTX 285.
Multicom havent given me any status on when everything is coming in stock yet, but I guess it will take a months time or so...
And... Im not waiting for any better card from ATI, my first mobile experience with ATI was as mentioned my Asus W90vp, and Im not gonna do that mistake again... -
I wouldn`t blame ATI for that, but Asus are the ones to blame
-
True... the performance of the 2 4870 in xf was awesome, but since most of the cards from Asus was defect and the driver/bios problems, Im gonna go for NVIDIA again, and i hope things will be better this time.
You get really dissapointed when you are spending that amount of money on a laptop, and all u can do with it is sending it all around the world for services for 6 months. So I really do hope Clevo are more trustable then Asus, if not, Im gonna grow up and stop playing computer games...hehe
CLEVO X8100...Who's gonna get it???
