Hello I have an old CLEVO p150sm-a (SAGER NP8268) with a gtx 870m and a 4th gen i7. It was heavily used before in my college days but recently its just laying here in my storage. The last time I opened it was 2months ago and I decided to open it again but It didnt post at first, I left it open and it booted into windows after atleast an hour of it being plugged. But when I restarted it, it did not post anymore even if I waited for an hour. I already tried removing the ram, changing power supplies, using an external monitor but nothing seems to work. All i get was a black screen with capslock and numlock not even turning on and the power indicator led light. I noticed that when its on for 5 mns the fan of the cpu turns on, and I also tried removing the MXM and when I did the capslock, numlock, scroll lock kept on blinking and the cpu fan went to 100%. I was suspecting at first that it was a motherboard problem but now I think its a gpu problem? I would gladly want to hear your thoughts on this, is it still recoverable?

Are both the CPU and GPU VRMs getting hot?
-
The last time I checked, they were.
Edit: I failed to mention that the power button is not working anymore, so the way I turn it on is that I remove the battery and then plug in the AC. (I dont know if this info is at any help.) -

Does it respond if you remove the GPU?
-
As I said, yes it does, the capslock numlock and scrl lock kept blinking and the fan goes to 100% when i remove the GPU. fn+1 also makes fan speed up.

Sounds like there is a short on the GPU then.

I know this is an old post, but is it possible to boot the laptop without having an mxm gpu? I really just want to use it as spare productivity laptop. If not, what's the cheapest mxm gpu you can get to get this laptop running again?

It will go into a EC panic and shut down after 30 seconds with no GPU.
Cheapest depends on the market at the time in your part of the world. -

You could try to bake the gpu as a last resort

Usually the smaller quadros of a similar generation are a safe bet.
