    Hello Everyone,
Since everyone was so helpful and solved my last problem, I figured I would ask the crowd once more. I have a question about the cpu compatibility for my laptop.

    I have the following Laptop
    pro-star D9C D901c Laptop
    5.2a rev Motherboard
    H8D900C.13N & D9C_22 Bios
    E6750 CPU
    4GB of Memory
    7950 GTX go

I have 2 CPU's sitting around that I was thinking of putting in my laptop.
    Q6600
    E8500

I'm certain the Q6600 will work...but will the E8500 work or will it get to hot for the laptop? I've been looking at the forum and I see that some people have them but I would like the experts to chime in their opinions if they think they will work on my board, before I try something. With my luck, I would blow it up.

Thanks in advance again for your help

I'm sure that the 8800GTX in my clevo, is the same one you would need in your 901, I can't see that not being the case.

I'm sure the good people of this forum will know and point us both in the right direction!

Sorry kaltmeyer, normally people in this forum is pretty quick about getting answers out. I'm pretty sure all Clevo based machines use the same 8800GTX, I can't see that being different. You will just have to make sure you have the latest bios. I will do a quick search and see what comes up.

kobe, I believe the OP is talking about CPUs, not GPUs :)

To the OP: If you check Q6600 and E8500 on wikipedia, you'll see that:
    Q6600 - E8500
    65nm - 45nm
    105W - 65W
    (1.1–1.372 V) - (0.85–1.3625 V)

So from the above, if you believe the Q6600 will work, I don't see why the E8500 won't - all stats point to it running cooler. Of course, I am not able to back this with any concrete proof, just common sense :).

    villiansv you're so correct sir!

He did ask me about the GPU upgrade, and I tried to answer him here to kill two birds with one stone.

I do stuff backwards/awkward anyway, so don't pay me any attention, LOL!

You are correct, the Q6600, E8500 will work for your motherboard and bios versions. I had an E8400 running and replaced it with a wonderful Q9650 :)

Thank you both for your help....just thinking about it if the Q9650 will work...then the q9450 & Q9550 should work also.

How about the Q6800 or x6800?

Does anyone know if I would be able to throw either of one of these into...will they work?
How about the Q6800 or x6800?

    A Q9650 works flawlessly with BIOS .22 and KBC/EC .13N.

Anything like you said (Q6800 or X6800) are not guaranteed to work. If it does work, do let us know.

If it functions, the X6800 should be overclockable to an extent with ThrottleStop. Not certain of it, but I do remember someone here juicing a CPU in the D901C beyond its specification using it. Too tired to go find that thread at the moment.

EDIT (Important): Forgot to mention that a Q9650 will only work flawlessly in motherboard revision 6.2 (because that is what I'm using as I type this). Using the 5.2a revision... I cannot guarantee its functionality. Do so at your own risk!

If you believe this guy that sells an Alienware D901C (it does have an Alienware OEM HDD in it), it should support x6800:
    ALIENWARE CLEVO D901c Quad Core 17" Games/CAD 7950GTX! | eBay

The highest you can go is QX9650 and Xeon x3380, but you should be careful if you run the QX9650 and SLI combo because QX9650 has a max TDP of 130W.

Thank you for your comments....I think I'll just stick with the Q6600 or E8500.
Those I know for sure will work...and I don't want to lose my favorite work laptop.

Thanks again to everyone who commented.
