    hello all,

got my new P170H about a month and a half ago...and the CPU I ordered was the i7-2860QM......and that's what Windows shows in the MyComputer propreties.
However when i run the latest version of CPUID HW Monitor, it actually calls out the CPU being a i7-Extreme 2920XM.....so I guess I'm confused as to which one is it....is it just HW that's wrong here?
I have windows 7 64bit w/ the latest updates installed.

    thanks!

Can you run CPU-Z and post a screenshot of the main CPU-Z window?

I would suspect CPUZ is just reading it wrong. If you ordered and Windows says its an i7 2860QM i'd bet on it.

You can check the BIOS and if you really feel adventurous you can remove it from the computer to see what the markings on the CPU are.

yeah, actually after I posted the topic, I rememember CPU-Z...but its result is more confusing...saying that the name is the 2920 yet the specification is the 2860....
what does that mean?...are they really one and the same CPU, w/ the 2860 being an underclocked version?....or am I reading this wrong?

@Hutsady: ...no I'm not quite adventurous enough to take it apart just to see what it says on the die.... :)

    see attached/below...

The 2920XM has the same base clock speed as the 2860QM, yet the former is unlocked for overclocking.

What you have is a 2860QM.
