the CPUs in the Sager 5790 are socket P, correct? what is the difference between socket P and socket M and why are sockey M processors ~$100 more expensive for the same unit?

Yes the new Santa Rosa platform notebooks (including the Clevo M570RU) are using Socket P .... which denotes PENRYN.

The main difference is that it has an 800 MT/s FSB, that is switchable on the fly to 400MT/s to save power.

The CPU's are cheaper because they are becoming more and more plentiful to the market since they are currently being mass produced.... while the older Socket M is getting phased out and the stock on them are shortening.
