so the cable has had a kink the last couple of days, where I have to have it in certain positions to charge. This got worse until last night it sparked violently. That spark melted some of the rubber insulation.

So I have a few questions:
Would the power cable be covered under any warranty? (still have had my computer for less than a year)

What are my cheapest options for replacing it?

I've looked at sager's site and I'm not sure I want to pay $90 for a replacement from them. I found others on other sites, but still a bit much. I was wondering if there were any generic ones with conversion kits that might be able to replace it.
I was going to cut and splice the cable for a temporary fix while I wait on a replacement, but the damage is so close to that separation thing on the end that I would have to cut that off too, and if for whatever reason this is replaceable by warranty, I don't want to damage it even further.

    specs for the charger:
    Chicony A14-150P1A
    Output: 19.5 Volts, 7.7 Amps 150 Watts
Plug: 5.5mm * 2.5mm (from what I've found, I'm not sure how accurate that is)

That should be covered under warranty. The cut and splice will work fine and isn't too difficult, but perhaps you'd better ask your reseller if they're ok with that. A different, generic adapter is also possible, as long as it's ~19V and 150W or more and, of course, the tip matches. There's a lot of universal adapters, these have various replaceable tips.

Hm, and it is the adapter<->laptop cord we're talking about, right? The adapter<->socket cable is generic and can be swapped with any other two/three prong cable, like those from a monitor, printer or whatever you happen to have in the house.

I would reach out to your reseller where you bought your computer, and ask about the AC adapter. Usually that should be covered under warranty I would think.

I contacted sager directly already but they're closed on weekends and my reseller (power notebooks) just ended their business. Last time I had a warranty issue they told me to contact sager anyways.

Yeah, it's not the replaceable end that goes into a wall socket. If it was I wouldn't be having issue.

Of course, it isn't the cable that plugs in to the brick, that you could take from another laptop model possibly, or pick up cheaply at a box store. :(

In that case, reaching out to Sager is probably best as you mentioned.

Ya Sager should be able to take care of it. Don't go into cutting quite yet as then it wouldn't be covered under warranty.
