    Hi all,

I heard that the Clevo M860TU will support up to 8GB RAM. I know that Vista doesn't recognise a full 4GB, but what happens with 8GB?
If somebody could please explain to me if unrecognised RAM is actually used, or does the lack of recognition of the RAM give a cut off point? (e.g. using 3GB instead of the whole 4GB due to it only recognising that).

What programs would benefit from packing a notebook with 8GB RAM?

You can use a Windows Server 2008, 32 bit edition, that sees and uses whole 8 GB of memory. Or, use a hack for Vista. Or, use Vista x64. :)

Not entirely true, as PAE requires a lot of specialized software/drivers.

There is no reliable way to enable more than about 3.5GB on a 32bit system.

It is also likely that the chipset will reserve up to 1GB for hardware addess space, so you will only get ~7GB even if you use vista 64

Isn't it best to stick with 32bit for gaming though? I thought there were problems running a lot of games on 64bit Vista.

There aren't problems running games on Vista x64, maybe some geological ones, but the new ones work.

Up to 128gb on the OS

Your notebook chipset/BIOS can only support up to 4gb so its pointless.

    Yes, I think you're correct - 6.8GB on the NP9262's chipset
